CHN Policy - Chatham-Harwich Newcomers Club

Chatham Harwich Newcomers Club:
Activities Participation Policy Statement
Summary:
The Chatham Harwich Newcomers Club and The Social Club of Lower
Cape Cod A/K/A CONCH participate together in several activities.
Purpose:
This policy defines the activities that Chatham Harwich Newcomers
Club (CHN) members participate together with CONCH members. The
reason for this policy is to reaffirm agreements that were reached in
2008 wherein CHN and CONCH became separate and distinct clubs
described as follows.
Background: In the past, members of CHN were expected to resign from the Club
after five years of membership and then had the option of joining
CONCH. A group of CHN members at the time challenged the five-year
requirement that was contained in the Club’s bylaws. A campaign was
initiated to amend the bylaws to eliminate the five-year provision.
At its May 19 2008 General Membership meeting, CHN approved an
amendment to its by-laws that eliminated the provision requiring its
members to resign from the Club after five years. CONCH
subsequently amended its by-laws to allow residents of all
surrounding towns to join CONCH.
As these events unfolded CHN and CONCH agreed that there were
several activities that would be considered shared activities between
the two Clubs. This would allow Club members to continue
participating together and to continue enjoying each other’s company.
Another factor that has come to light over the past few years is the
need to recognize certain activities as Community Activities because
they are offered to the public at large. These Community Activities are
categorized separately from the Joint Activities defined in the following
Policy Statement.
Policy:
It is the policy of CHN to participate together with CONCH in the
following Joint Activities that were initially agreed to in 2008. These
Activities are as follows:
Biking; Book Club, Women; Book Club, Men; Bowling; Cross Country
Skiing; Golf, Men; Golf, Women; Hiking Highlights; Kayaking; Knitting;
Men’s Cooking; Movies (presently defined as the Orpheum Theater
Group); Nurse’s Group; Tennis-Women’s; Wood Workers.

Descriptions of these Activities are contained on CHN’s and CONCH’s website. All
other Activities initiated by CHN are available to CHN members only.
Participants in the fourteen Joint Activities shall be dues paying members of CHN or
CONCH. Members may bring a guest on occasion but not on a recurring basis.
The following Activities are considered Community Activities and open to CHN,
CONCH and others as defined by the Community provider: Mah Jongg; Tai Chi.
Community Activities recognized and approved by the CHN Board are permitted to
recruit from our members.
This policy is not restrictive; other activities may be added as the need arises. The
CHN Board shall review and act on any additional activities that may be considered
as Joint Activities with CONCH.
