Merill] intercropped with maize (Zea mays L.)", University of Guelph, Canada Masters of Science (M.Sc), Thesis title: "Effect of nitrogen and water stress on growth, yield and distribution of nitrogenous compounds in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.)", University of Manitoba, Canada Bachelors of Science (BSc) (Botany and Chemistry) University of Nairobi, University of Nairobi A Level: Pangani Girls High School, Nairobi, Kenya (Studied Maths, Chemistry and Biology, General paper - 3 principals and 1 subsidiary) O Levels: St. Francis Girls High School, Mang’u, Kenya (Division 1) Professional Interests: Contribute to increasing agriculture production and productivity for the increasing populations while taking into consideration the conservation of natural resources and the changing climate. I advocate the development and promotion of strategies and technologies that not only increase productivity but also increase farmers’ and pastoralists’ resilience i.e. increase adaptation to; while mitigating against climate change. 3. WORK EXPERIENCES July 2000 to Though trained and having worked as a research scientists for 19 years, my career has shifted to management of research geared towards sustainable use of the natural present resources in agriculture and building farmer resilience to respond to climate change through adaptation of technologies for climate smart agriculture. For the past 13 years (2000-2013) I have been working at the level of an Assistant Director – Natural Resource Management (previously called Soil and water Management; Land and Water Management) in Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI). I coordinate and manage about 70 scientists conducting research in the areas of (i) integrated soil fertility management, (ii) soil and water management, (iii) irrigation, drainage and management of problem soils, (iv) land use planning and (v) climate change and environment research in the institute. In addition I conduct 1 Jane W. Wamuongo 1997 – 2000 1995-1997: monitoring and evaluation of the research programme activities, coordinate the division’s (NRM) activities with those of other divisions (Finance, Planning and Administration), prepare various reports of the division’s activities and foster linkages with other partners including other line ministries and departments as well as development partners in the area of land and water management and environmental research. To be in abetter position to respond to the effects of climate change I spearheaded the formation of a climate change unit under the Environment Research Programme. The aim of the Climate Change Unit (http://www.kari.org/kccu/) was to help mainstream climate change adaptation and mitigation in all programmes of the institute (KARI), act as forum to engage with relevant stakeholders in the area of climate change, and also act as a platform to leverage funding for research in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Senior Research Officer (SRO): Soil and Water Management and Donor Coordination in KARI. Duties included assisting the Assistant Director in charge of Soil and Water Management in coordinating and managing all research projects and programme in KARI and in donor coordination and liaising with various Donors on behalf of KARI. SRO in KARI as a Programme Leader of the Soil and Water Conservation Programme for the High and Medium Potential Areas of Kenya at KARIMuguga South. Duties included coordination the drafting of specific research projects and ensuring they were implemented on schedule, conducting research on soil and water management, supervision of the scientific, technical, and supporting staff assigned to the programme on a day to day basis, supervising the programme’s expenditure in close collaboration with the accountant, convening and acting as secretary to the Programme Steering Committee, preparation of seasonal and annual scientific reports and other reports, management and coordination of the Programme’s assets and development and maintenance of beneficial working relations with other programmes within KARI and outside KARI SRO with duties in Soil and Water Conservation Research Programme, Maize 1994-1995: Programme and the Regional Research Programme in KARI-Muguga South Jan 1992Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA).
