Pride, Ability, Positivity
Rothersthorpe Cof E Primary School
2nd May 2014
Dear Parents,
Welcome back after the Easter break, we hope you all managed to have some quality family time together and
enjoyed some of the sunshine, which may have come your way.
We’ve had a very busy first full week in school with a range of meetings. I do hope you found them all informative and worthwhile. We have such a strong school community and I know that everyone is working
very hard to ensure that all our children receive the very best education, as well as a fun time during their
primary years. Thank you for all your useful and positive contributions.
As usual we have lots of events coming up including the rhythmic gymnastics competition; the women’s cycle
tour of Britain through our village; class 2 local trip; class 4 year 6 Sats; class 3 residential; May Day. I look
forward to seeing most of you I’m sure at our May Day celebrations.
Kindest regards, Mrs. Fountain
Sports Relief 2014—£1000 raised by the children skipping and
selling cakes. Thank you all so very much for your generosity.
Our new house teams:
Team name ideas from the children were collated and the most popular idea was to name the teams after
famous people. Teachers then decided to ask the children for names of famous people from Northamptonshire,
and the following were selected:
Derek Redmond—Athlete.
Lady Diana Spencer (Princess of Wales).
Walter Tull—The first black English Footballer and Officer in the British army.
Francis Crick—Inventor of DNA.
Children can gain points for their house by: completing their achievement card; following our school ethos;
school motto; Christian values. At our sports day in June children will also be competing in events to gain
points for their team. There will be a trophy awarded for the team with the most points.

Ipad News
We now have our 8 ipads loaded and class 4 have used them on
the internet and for a Maths activity which involved scanning
bar codes.
Liam: “It was great fun to use the bar-code app in maths because
it told you what to add or subtract”.
Imogen: “The ipads are useful and actually quite quick”.
Sinead: “We have been using the ipads to look up information about recent events in the world”.
All our ipads will shortly include a range of apps so that all classes will be able to use them.
Our Christian Value of the term is: Hope
This term we will be exploring the value of Hope through stories about Jesus,
the Light and Hope of the World; symbols of Hope; Planting Hope; Hope for the
Future; bringing Hope to others.
Children could extend their lessons further at home by: Finding examples in magazines and in the news
about people who are bringing hope to the world today; planting a tree of hope for the world.

Local and National increase in Scarlet Fever
Signs and symptoms
Scarlet fever is a common childhood infection caused by Streptococcus pyogenes,
or group A streptococcus (GAS). The early symptoms of scarlet fever include sore
throat, headache, fever, nausea and vomiting. After 12 to 48 hours the characteristic
red, pinhead rash develops, typically first appearing on the chest and stomach, then
rapidly spreading to other parts of the body, and giving the skin a sandpaper-like
texture. The scarlet rash may be harder to spot on the skin of some Black and Asian
people, although the 'sandpaper' feel should be present. Patients typically have
flushed cheeks and pallor around the mouth. This may be accompanied by a
‘strawberry tongue’. As the child improves peeling of the skin can occur.

Football is not allowed on the playground.
Take care when using balls—we have had some minor damage recently.
Appropriate social behaviour—some older children have been seen having ‘arguments’ on
