OPERATIONS PLAN FOR THE SOCCER MATCH BETWEEN BAFANA
BAFANA AND BRAZIL AT FNB STADIUM ON 05 MARCH 2014
1. Introduction
Rea Vaya will be operating a park and ride service to transport fans to
Brazil vs South Africa Match on the 05th March 2014 from its park and ride
facilities along the Rea Vaya route to the FNB Stadium. Transport service
will be stepped up from 18:00 to 05 minutes frequency [from Ellis Park (1A)
and Library Garden East (1B)]. Fans will be dropped at the Soccer City Rea
Vaya station.
The following are the park and ride facilities identified for the fans;
 Constitutional Hill
 Metro Centre
 Westgate
 UJ Kingsway - TBC
 Indingilizi Rea Vaya Bus terminal
2. Assumptions
 Event management services to provide security for crowd control
purposes outside the FNB Stadium station between the Staduim and
the Rea Vaya Station after the match. At least 50 guards will be
adequate.
3. Limitations or structural rigidities of the plan or points to be
seriously considered
 Time to evacuate fans is at least 2 hours (after the match)

4. Types of service to be provided
 A normal service along the Rea Vaya route picking up normal
commuters and fans will be operated.
 T1 service between Ellis Park & Thokoza Park will drop off fans at
Soccer City Rea Vaya Station
 T3 service from Library Gardens East and C1 service from
Dobsonville (Indingilizi) will drop fans at Orlando Stadium Rea
Vaya Station. T3 and C1 fans will transfer into T1 service to Rea
Vaya Soccer City Station

9. Available capacity and duties required
Before the match:
T1
 Normal service buses + 6 extra Articulated buses schedule from Ellis
Park to Thokoza Park dropping off fans at Soccer City Rea Vaya
Station. 6 extra Articulated buses will start operating a 05 minutes
frequency from 18:00 up to 19:00
T3
 Normal service buses + 6 extra Articulated buses schedule from
Library Gardens to Thokoza Park dropping off transfer fans at

Orlando Stadium. 6 extra Articulated buses will start operating a 05
minutes frequency from 18:00 up to 19:00




After the match:
T1
30 Articulated busses to transport fans from Soccer City Rea Vaya
Station to Ellis Park and Thokoza Park (via Orlando Stadium)
5 Feeder and Complementary busses ( F2=2 and C1=2 and F1=1)
T3
25 Rigid buses to transport fans from Soccer City Rea Vaya Station
to Library Gardens East
2 Feeder buses (F11=2)
NB: THESE FEEDER BUSSES WILL DO THEIR FIRST TRIPS FROM
SOCCER CITY TO THOKOZA PARK AND YEOVILLE THEN DO THE
FEEDER ROUTES.

 Towards Soweto (Soccer City): 2 articulated busses per station (West
Bound)
 Toward Library Gardens (Soccer City): 2 articulated buses (West
Bound)

Loading strategy
 Soccer City station
2 Articulated buses for Soweto, 2 busses for CBD bound trips, and 2 buses
for Library Gardens East will be used to drop off normal passenger, and
park and ride passengers along Rea Vaya route. Soccer City Rea Vaya
station will be utilized for Soweto, Ellis Park and Library Gardens East
bound trips after the match. The BRT lane will be used to stack busses in
both directions preparing for speedily evacuation of fans from this station.
Frequency or headway for this service is at least 3 minutes. All busses
must be stacked at the station by 20:00

Fare collection / ticketing
Park and Ride Service
R50 wrist band (Inclusive of R25 return trip card) will be issued to the driver
of the vehicle. Park and ride fares will be paid at the entrance of the facility
Normal fans / Passenger
Fans can load and use their distance based smart cards or purchase a R25
return trip card to and from the soccer match. Smart card loading and trip
card sales will happen at any Rea Vaya station, (including Soccer City Rea
Vaya Ticket Office). NB: To speed up loadings after the match, fans should
be encouraged to buy return trip cards as loading and trip card sales at
Soccer City sales office is generally slow.
13.
Signage
Proper signage at the FNB Stadium and Rea Vaya station needs to be in
place. T3 / Soweto loading spaces at Soccer City Rea Vaya Station to be
clearly demarcated.
