MICHELIN CLIO CUP ROAD SERIES 2014
The Michelin Clio Cup Road Series is a championship for race cars derived from the
Clio Renaultsport 197 road car. Using a donor road car, competitors use an official
Renault Sport kit of parts and a bespoke roll over protection system, developed
exclusively by Safety Devices, to build their race car.
It is promoted by Grovewood Sport Ltd and registered as a national championship with
the MSA by the British Automobile Racing Club. The championship is supported by
Michelin, Protyre Motorsport and Safety Devices.
The championship is aimed at drivers aged 16 and above who are new to car racing
and the minimum race licence requirement is National B. It is ideal for drivers moving
from karting who have chosen a saloon car racing path over a career in single-seaters.
The Clio Cup Road Series is designed as the first step on the Clio Cup ladder, which
ultimately leads career drivers to the British Touring Car Championship.

The Road Series races at BARC national meetings alongside the Michelin Clio Cup
Race Series and Protyre Formula Renault Championship (except Oulton Park).
FORMAT
Circuits will host testing within two days of the race meeting date and a list of dates
and booking details will be circulated by the Championship Organiser once
confirmed.
Saturday will feature a timed 20-minute qualifying session with the fastest time
determining the grid for the first race and the second fastest time setting the grid for
the second race. There will be a 25-minute race on Saturday afternoon at Donington
Park and Brands Hatch (20-mins at Rockingham, Oulton Park and Coft due to circuit
curfew). The race length at Snetterton is yet to be decided.
On Sunday there will be a second, 25-minute (again 20-mins plus 1 lap at
Rockingham, Oulton Park and Coft). We are also planning to include some longer
races on Sunday, for example at Snetterton on 31 August.

The BARC has granted the Michelin Clio Cup Road Series its own separate race
unless registrations are below 15 at the end of March then the Road Series will run
as a class within the Michelin Clio Cup Series championship as a whole.

REGISTRATION FEE
The Michelin Clio Cup Road Series is set up to accommodate drivers who enter the
championship as a whole and race at all six events.
Registration will open at the Autosport International Show on Thursday, January
and close on Friday, February. The registration fee during this time is discounted to
£945 including VAT. From the March onwards the fee rises to £1200 including VAT.

The registration fee includes the following services:

Free pre-season test day in mid March on one of the championship circuits
with exclusive Clio Cup sessions

Team members have access to the Michelin Race Centre for information and
refreshments. Details of hospitality will follow in due course.

Strong scrutineering to maintain a level playing field

Competitors must become racing members of the BARC, at a cost of £111.50
including VAT, to enter the championship races. Race entry is completed through the
BARC HQ at Thruxton Circuit a few weeks before each round and typically costs
£450 per event.

TECHNICAL
In 2014 only cars derived from the Clio Renaultsport 197 model will be permitted and
not the 200 model as previously stated. Championship organisers will review the
position with regard to allowing cars built around the 200 version at the end of the
2014 season. Competitors cannot mix components between the 197 and 200
versions.
In 2014 we are adopting strong tyre control rules to prevent competitors buffing tyres
to gain an advantage. Tyres must be bought at the circuit as they will be marked by
Protyre Motorsport. Competitors will be allowed two new tyres per event and
therefore 12 for the season. The control tyre is Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and the current
cost is £100 plus VAT. Competitors should make provision to purchase 14 tyres for
use in 2014 as two spares are required to be taken to every race meeting.
Competitors will only be allowed to have one spare set of wheels. These will be
marked by the scrutineer at the start of the season.
Fuel – circuit pump fuel will be nominated at the first five events but control fuel will
be mandatory at the final round at Croft as no circuit fuel is available. The estimated
cost of control fuel is £2.12 pence per litre plus VAT
Competitors are responsible for making sure their car is fitted with a working timing
transponder purchased from Timing Solutions Ltd. The current cost including VAT,
postage and packing is £325.68
The Milltek specified exhaust system is now part of the Renault Sport kit. It is also
available from Monster Sport Europe separately priced £360 plus VAT
We are currently evaluating a single source for engine control mapping. We are also
considering the fitting of a scrutineering data logger to all or selected cars.
Shims, solely supplied by Monster Sport Europe, for use on the rear beam for toe
only will be introduced in 2014.
All cars will be required to be presented before the start of the season for validation
by the Championship Organiser.
