We need to have multi-language capabilities, ready to deal with all the countries we work with, and that can give us the solutions we need to keep growing, adding more languages along the way. This presentation will explain how Cummins added new languages and one new Maximo IS product to their existing environment. We will also demonstrate how Cummins and IBM conducted troubleshooting to resolve challenges along this journey. Our intention with this presentation is to share experience we acquired during this time and share it with Maximo consumers community. 4 Cummins Multiple Languages Deployment: Being Global makes it a necessity to be Multilingual. Started out in 2006 with just 2 additional languages, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese Currently loaded in Maximo with base language of English. Spanish Portuguese (BZL) Chinese German Turkish Korean French Russian Languages currently supporting / being used Spanish Portuguese (BZL) Chinese (simplified) Korean French Turkish Dialects 5 Cummins Global Business Requirements: We need assurance that our employees and partners around the word can communicate clear and fast We need a product that follow us in this goal Our working tool should not be a barrier to our growth The impact of having a product or a service wrongly used or requested is very high as well as the risk of loosing a deal 6 Cummins Languages Issue: The upgrade to Maximo 7.1.1.8 failed and Languages where not installed correctly. – As a results applications were left with a mixture of languages – Maximo Calibration was installed on top of 7.1.1.8 and it was not translated – Some messages where in English and some translated - causing a mix of languages – Everything that were added afterwards were in English, even if we try to install other languages 7 Maximo – Asset Application English Spanish 8 Maximo - Calibration 9 Cummins Language Issue Findings: 1. Utilities Kit was not working 2. Maximo Files (XLIFF files) were missing 3. TDToolKit (command line) not working 4. Web session held for additional research 5. Cummins database sent to IBM for additional analysis 10 Cummins Language Issue Root Cause & Solution: Root Cause: 1. Mismatch of Product Version and Language Version installed 2. Missing Files (XLIFF files) Solution Implemented: 1. Replace Missing Files (XLIFF files) 2. Rerun TDToolKit and it will update database to correct mismatches 11 Cummins Language Issue Lessons Learned: 1) Know where to look for the problem could save time 2) A clean install Do not restart install Restore and start over 3) Run Query and Match Version 4) The Translation of the product needs to be well implemented to work at full speed 5) The earlier we try to find the problem the faster we will get a solution 12 Tips for a Successful Language Deployment: When languages are an issue, some key tables could give you a faster answer: – MAXVARS, LANGUAGE and TDTVERSION needs to be checked – Compare to the products and languages you have installed – The install logs as well as the TDToolKit log (Maximo log) should point you in the right direction 13 Q&A Questions 14 Acknowledgements and Disclaimers: Availability.
