Cummins Global Business Summary:
For a company to function globally, simply having software in
different languages is not enough anymore. We need to have
multi-language capabilities, ready to deal with all the countries
we work with, and that can give us the solutions we need to
keep growing, adding more languages along the way. This
presentation will explain how Cummins added new languages
and one new Maximo IS product to their existing environment.
We will also demonstrate how Cummins and IBM conducted
troubleshooting to resolve challenges along this journey. Our
intention with this presentation is to share experience we
acquired during this time and share it with Maximo consumers
community.

Cummins Global Business Requirements:
 We need assurance that our employees and partners around the
word can communicate clear and fast
 We need a product that follow us in this goal
 Our working tool should not be a barrier to our growth
 The impact of having a product or a service wrongly used or
requested is very high as well as the risk of loosing a deal
6
Cummins Languages Issue:
 The upgrade to Maximo 7.1.1.8 failed and Languages where not
installed correctly.
– As a results applications were left with a mixture of languages
– Maximo Calibration was installed on top of 7.1.1.8 and it was not
translated
– Some messages where in English and some translated - causing a mix of
languages
– Everything that were added afterwards were in English, even if we try to
install other languages

10
Cummins Language Issue Root Cause & Solution:
Root Cause:

Missing Files (XLIFF files)
Solution Implemented:
1.
Replace Missing Files (XLIFF files)
2.
Rerun TDToolKit and it will update database to correct
mismatches
11
Cummins Language Issue Lessons Learned:
1)
Know where to look for the problem could save time
2)
A clean install
Do not restart install
Restore and start over
3)
Run Query and Match Version
4)
The Translation of the product needs to be well implemented to work
at full speed
5)
The earlier we try to find the problem the faster we will get a solution
12
Tips for a Successful Language Deployment:
 When languages are an issue, some key tables could give you a
faster answer:
– MAXVARS, LANGUAGE and TDTVERSION needs to be checked
– Compare to the products and languages you have installed
– The install logs as well as the TDToolKit log (Maximo log) should point
you in the right direction
