All our IBSA churches have at heart ministries that reach young people. But there are some people and places
that require our combined efforts. We have tremendous opportunities to reach children, teens, and their families—in our communities, on college campuses, and in remote places your church might not touch directly.
That’s where the Mission Illinois Offering comes in. The Mission Illinois Offering goal for 2014 is $475, 000.
All gifts to the Mission Illinois Offering go to work right here in Illinois.

FROM YOUR PASTOR!
So this past weekend I had
the privilege of working
with about a dozen guys
from our church. We journeyed down near Metropolis to help a church that was building a new facility.
We had a blast. Now I recently told you that I’m not
a cook so now I need to tell you that I am not a drywall hanger either. They did let me drive a couple of
screws. It was about eight feet in the air and when
the opportunity came--I got my feel back on solid
ground.
My job was to help push the scaffolds around, put
drywall on the lift and a couple of other things. I did
pretty good except for the time the lift fell over-fortunately no one was standing there. I did notice
from then on the guys kept a leery eye on me.
One of the brothers really knew how to hang dry
wall. He could hang it and he could handle it. He
would tell us exactly how to turn it--when to lift and
when to let it sit. He is a great teacher and a great
worker. One time he was telling a couple of other
guys, “let it go, I’ve got it” and they weren’t letting go.
I guess they’ve never heard the song, “let it go, let it
go!” Anyway, they finally did let it go and he got it
right where it needed to go.
He came over and we were chatting and he said
something that really struck a chord with me. He
said I can lift a piece of drywall but I can’t lift two
men. In other words, if the guys wouldn’t listen and
let go, they found themselves fighting the guy who
knew what to do. That instantly struck a chord with
me too.
I asked myself, “How many times do I fight against
the One who knows?” I’m not talking drywall, I’m
talking life. You see, God is the expert--He is all
knowing and all wise. The bottom line is we need to
listen to Him. We need to let it go when He says let
it go and hang on when He says hang on. Things
just go better when we listen to the One who knows.
That is true while hanging drywall and it is definitely
true with life and God.
Thanks men for a great job on Saturday. I was
proud to work with you. And that time the lift fell
over...well...uh...my bad. Let’s remember we have a
very wise God who knows everything. Let’s listen
and obey. Things will just go better. God bless you,
have a great week and I can’t wait to see you in worship and Bible study.

we will be hosting our previous family of 4 little ones plus
their new baby sister in September around the 22. We will
need a host family for the baby that is a month old. There is a
need for meals for two families and some child care for about
a week. If anyone can help with these various situations,
please contact Mollie Wise at [email protected] or
294-1394.
Ode To A Volunteer
Many will be shocked to find;
When the day of judgement
nears, That there’s a special
place in heaven set aside for
volunteers. Furnished with big recliners, satin couches and
footstools, where there’s no committee chairpersons no group
leaders or carpools. No eager team that needs a coach, no
bazaar with a bake sale. There will be nothing to staple, not
one thing to fold or mail. Telephone lists will be outlawed,
but a finger snap will bring cool drinks and gourmet dinners
and rare treats fit for a king. You ask, who’ll serve these privileged few and work for all they’re worth? Why all those
who reaped benefits and not once volunteered on earth!
