Dav Pilkey
by Cassie Howard
1 Dav Pilkey is the author of many popular children's books. He is also an
illustrator, which means he draws pictures. He is best known for a series of books
about a hero named Captain Underpants. Dav has had a lot of success as a writer
and illustrator, but it was not always that way.
2 When Dav was a kid, he had problems reading. He also got into trouble a lot
at school. Dav says that he didn't learn in the same way that other kids did. He was
hyperactive and had trouble paying attention in class. Because of this, lots of people
told Dav that he would not make it very far. But Dav didn't let those people talk
him out of his dream. These days, the very things that once got Dav into trouble
are exactly what make him a success. As he puts it, "If a silly, smart-alecky
goofball like Dav Pilkey can turn out all right, then there's hope for every kid."
