Any member of the Newnan Kennel Club may submit nominations for the AKC Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. 2. Nominees must be a member of the Newnan Kennel Club and be in good standing with both the AKC and NKC. 3. The Sportsmanship Committee shall be comprised of the 3 most recent recipients of the Outstanding Sportsmanship award. Members of this committee and their spouses will not be eligible for the award during the same time period that they sit on the committee. The board shall appoint one of these members to chair the committee 4. There shall be no set criteria for the award. Nominations from the membership must be presented in writing, paper form or electronic mail, to the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award Committee and may be done at any point during the calendar year. The nomination need not be lengthy but should give sufficient reason why the nominated party should receive the award. It will be up to the committee to vote on all nominations presented to find the annual winner. 5. The winner will be announced at the Annual Awards dinner and the medallion will be presented at the same time. The award shall be a certificate framed and matted in an 8 ½ by 11-inch regular certificate frame. 6. Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by the president. Carolyn made the motion which was 2n’d by Helen to defer to the business meeting until after our program. Motion carried. Business meeting was resumed at 8:25 pm. President’s Report: Joni welcomed our guests. Secretary’s Report: Correspondence received: Gwinnett Technical College: Thank you letter for our gift of $1000.00 to be deposited into the Academic Programs Fund to be used to assist in paying the expenses of our Vet. Tech. students as they attend the upcoming North American Veterinarian Conference. University of Georgia: Thank you letter for our recent gift of $500.00 to the UGA Foundation Sundown Surgery fund. Holiday greeting card from Gwinnett Tech foundation Holiday greeting card from College of Veterinary Medicine Office of Academic Affairs University of GA. University of GA college of Veterinary Medicine 2013-2013 Annual Report to donors Closeout letter from AKC after Fall Show Closeout letter from AKC after Agility Trials with corresponding date applications for next year. Dues with over-payment to be applied to Fall Trophy Fund from Carole Wilson. Emails have been set-up thru the Website for Club officials. The Secretary has not received a signed agreement from the Douglasville KC for the upcoming Spring Show. Butch stated that the treasurer has received their payment. Lisa stated that with the payment received, it is presumed that they have accepted the agreement. Treasurer’s Report: Butch reviewed the treasurer’s report for the period ending 12/31/2014, and passed this around for members review. AKC Delegate: In the absence of our Delegate, Joni reported that Willie has continued to send emails to Club members regarding delegate activities and other pertinent information. Committee Reports: Annual Awards: Marilyn reported that our Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner would be held in the same location as our Christmas party (White Oak Golf Club), May 7, 2014 Programs: Lu stated that our March program would be “Common eye problems in dogs and what to do about them" by Stacy Andrew, DVM. Website: Jan reported that the website is “up-to-date”. Fall Show: Joni reported that she has finished hiring judges for the 2014 Fall Show. Spring Show: Lisa stated that she still needs volunteers for catalog sales. Carolyn & Linda volunteered. Spring Match: Carolyn reported that the match flyer has been sent. She reviewed the classes to be offered and asked that members sign-up for jobs. Election of New Members: First Readings were completed for the following new member applicants: Jeanette Perkins Patty Anne King Kimberly Fancher Carole Robertson Gena Harper WELCOME Unfinished Business Peg asked about changing the Spring Show date, as she had read about this possibility in the Minutes of the last Board Meeting. The Motion was made by Lisa and seconded by Carol Ann that the minutes from the previous Board meeting be approved as published in the Newsletter. Motion Carried. President’s Report: no report Secretary’s Report: no report Treasurer’s Report: Butch reviewed the Clubs yearly financial report, the final Fall Show Report and the Treasurer’s report for the period ending 01/31/2014. Copies of each were available to the members. The yearly financial report and the monthly report are attached to these minutes. Committee Reports: AKC Delegate: Willie was in attendance to discuss the current NKC policy re: our AKC delegate. She explained that she would like to continue to attend the various Committee Meetings held a day prior to the Delegates meeting and have our Club pay for her lodging in addition to her air fare and ground transportation. Discussion and questions followed regarding the benefits of our Club having a Delegate in attendance. Annual Awards: Ronnie had received an email that the White Oak Country Club is not available for our Annual Awards date of May 7. Other dates are available, including the following Wednesday. The motion was made by Lu and seconded by Jan that we change the date of our Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner from May 7th to May 14th in order to have the event at the White Oak Country Club. Discussion followed. Motion Carried. Programs: Lu reported that Dr. Stacy Andrew, DVM, would present our March program "Common eye problems in dogs and what to do about them". Agility: Ellen reported that she has visited Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center in Gainesville, GA. She recommended that the Club move our Agility Trials to this facility. The trial dates will remain the same and the cost is comparable to Jim Miller Park. They offer RV parking, stalls for rental to exhibitors, grooming and watering of the rings and a place for the workers lunch. The motion was made by Lu and seconded by Carol Ann that our 2014 Agility Trials move to Chicopee Agricultural Center in Gainesville GA and that Ellen be authorized to sign their contract. Discussion followed. Motion carried. Spring Match: Joni reported for Carolyn that rosettes and ribbons have been ordered. There will not be a food vendor. The match announcement has been published on INFODog, directing people to Carolyn’s email or our website. Spring Show: Lisa reported that the Spring Show details have been completed. The premium list will be out soon. She explained that she is working with AKC, DKC and Coweta County Fairgrounds regarding a proposed change of date to begin in 2015. Fall Show: Joni reported that she is in the process of hiring Obedience and Rally judges. Nominating Committee Report: Jan made the following report: The nominating committee met on January 8th and nominated the following members for Officers, Board of Directors and AKC delegate for the upcoming year beginning at the Annual Meeting in May 2014. All have accepted their nomination. All request must be made in writing with a signature and phone number. Please be aware that judges are hired from 12 to 36 months in advance. The purpose of this form is to communicate your desires. The Show Chairs shall hire the judging panels using these recommendations– so far as practical. However, the Show Chairs shall be obligated to contact the Judge’s Selection Chair regarding a judge placed on the “No Hire” list before they attempt to hire that judge. The names of the judges selected by members shall be treated as confidential information between that member and the Judge’s Selection Chair.
