Minutes of the General Meeting held March 5, 2014 for the Central Fraser Valley
Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada.
Meeting was opened at 7:35 by President Rick Unger.
Guest tonight is Jim Lions, Treasurer of the Historic downtown Car Show. He brought
posters for August 23, 2014. The proceeds are to help Matthew’s House and bring
public awareness to the Downtown Business Area with a Poker Walk and prizes.
Guest Speakers tonight are Sid and Daphne Johnson along with Donna Kathlow from
South Fraser Way and Clearbrook McDonalds. They spoke about the work they do to
raise funds for both Ronald McDonald House and Matthew’s House and asked if we as
a group would be interested in being involved by participating in a Car Show. Ron
Eyben will liaise with Donna.
Motion to accept previous month’s minutes as amended; moved by Ron Eyben,
seconded by Ray Lamb, all in favour.
Treasurer’s report was read by Rick. There are still funds coming in from membership
fees.
Correspondence; KMS flyer, Model A Sunday posters and Revelstoke 2014 registration
forms.
A large poster was brought forward by Ian and Doreen Newby sponsoring the July 18 –
20th Aldergrove Fair Days. This year’s theme is tractors. The car and tractor show is
free on Friday night at the Aldergrove High School. With more fun and entertainment all
weekend.
Membership; Ron and Pat are finally back from Phoenix and report that we have 87
members as of tonight with Terry Adamson and Keith Jackman being our 2 newest
members.
Name tag drawn was Ron Eyben, congratulations Ron, sorry about the skinny pot, it’s
Frank’s fault for winning last month.
Re & Re Draw (Rent and Restoration); was looked after by Al and Cindy and was won
by Glenn and Janice Irwin.
Stationary and letterhead are going to be drafted up; Rick and Cam will keep it basic
and simple with hard copies and an electronic version made available, possibly a
generic ‘Thank you’ type card set up as well.
Upcoming Events are;
Sunday March 9, 1:00 pm at the Auto-Mall ; Car run and tour of Hub Fire Engines and
ending with coffee at Timmy’s on Sumas Way by the new Target. Don’t forget Daylight
savings time change.
2
April 6, Car Run, or a tour of a commercial Tomato greenhouse in Tsawwassen,
Jeanette will co-ordinate with George and Leroy, details at a later date.
April 26 and 27, the 2nd Annual Country Car Show at Otter Co-op. Volunteer sign-up
sheets are being passed around so please sign up. Parking help and food and games
help are needed. Everything is on track, with John J going to the Tradex with posters to
advertise the upcoming event. Thank you to John’s nephew for making up the large
corrugated plastic posters for us with the layout Cam did up. We have the use of ½ of
the Credit Union parking lot for Saturday and all of it for Sunday.
May is still open for a Car run and don’t forget the 2014 May Tour in Revelstoke, May
16 – 19th.
June 1 is Model A Sunday, posters are available at the front table.
There are lots of events coming up, please check Harrison’s List for a full rundown on
them.
May Tour 2015 is 14 months from now; The theme for the tour will be ’57. A donation
request letter has been drafted. There is a question about having an open Car Show.
Do we want to let the public around the cars? There are concerns about people
touching the cars and possible damage done. Bob brought up the issue of support. As
we are asking local businesses and their owners to support us, can we really shut them
out or, as a club whose mission is to bring people into our hobby, are we doing the
hobby and ourselves a disservice by telling the public they aren’t invited in. Cindy has
suggested that we have a car show as has been done at other May Tours but not to
specifically advertise it. The majority of membership tonight seemed to be in favour of
allowing the public in without advertising.
Cam Hutchins has the logo done and Bill Trant has put together registration forms for
us with only a few additions to make. Bill wants to have 175 printed and ready to take to
Revelstoke in May to start taking registration deposits.
In the SVA report Earl sent to all members by email, there was a notice that the
Provincial Government has proclaimed July 12, 2014 specifically and the month of July
as Collector Car Appreciation Day and Month. This was done to acknowledge the
hobbyists for the contributions made to various charities and the economy, the joy and
encouragement brought to seniors and youth. We will find out if the National committee
is doing anything in support of this. The Proclamation is available for everyone to see on
the web-site.
SVA AGM is on March 22, 2014 in Burnaby. Nigel Matthew’s will continue as president
for another year.
At this point we are presenting year bars at the end of the anniversary year instead of
the beginning but now that the data has been brought up to date, we will begin
presenting the year bars at the beginning of the anniversary year. Registration is
complete so in the next month or so the year bars for 2014 will be handed out.
3
Tonight we present for 2013, to Doreen and Ian Newby – 10 years and Art and Vicky
Hoock – 30 years. Congratulations to both of you and thank you for your years of
support. Also presented tonight, to Gordon Taylor, past-presidents bar and to Rick
Unger, Presidents bar.
For the good of the organization, tokens of appreciation to Don and Lilah Warren, and
Leroy and Jean Clingwall.
Fortin’s will be sending out email offers to our members as part of the Group promo.
Birthday greetings read out by Jeanette Wright for January, February and March. Happy
Birthday to all of you!
April meeting will be held at the Legacy Sport’s Club on the other side of the Ag-Rec
grounds. An email reminder will be sent out and there will be signs posted at both Gate
1 and Gate 2.
Ladies breakfast is on March 19th and Men’s coffee is on at Leroy’s.
Meeting adjourned for coffee and goodies at 8:40 pm by Bob Ferenczi, seconded by
Joe Wright; all in favour.
Thank you to Sid, Daphne and Donna for bringing coffee and cookies from McDonalds.
Respectfully submitted, Robyn Ferenczi

Richard Heyman is doing a great job with our website. To access it go to the bar on top
of the internet page and type in www.vccc.com , which should bring up the Vintage Car
Club of Canada website, then click on Chapters A-M and then onto Central Fraser
Valley. Work your way through the different headings. If you have something you would
like to contribute or would like to see on the site, please contact Richard Heyman.

Equipment Inventory
Over the years the club has purchased a variety of items like signs, canopies, coffee
making equipment and many other things. We, the present executive, do not know what
we own or where it is located. This would save us from making duplicate purchases and
also, if anyone wanted to borrow something we would know who to talk to. I will attempt
to create an equipment list and publish it monthly in the Crankshaft Journal so everyone
knows what we own and how to access it. This will take a while to establish and I
cannot do it without everyone’s help. I will start the list and hopefully you can let me
know if you have anything that belongs to the club.
