PRODUCT DATA SHEET ATSC 8000 ATSC‐8000 ATSC 8-VSB Digital TV Exciter The ATSC‐8000 DTV exciter is a compact and powerful platform that delivers an ATSC compliant, on‐channel output as well as performs adaptive RF precorrection for the best possible broadcast signal precorrection for the best possible broadcast signal. COMARK Communications provides high performance and award winning television transmitters that are backed by more than 40 years of leadership in both inductive output tube (IOT) and solid-state broadcast technologies. The ATSC-8000 digital TV exciter from COMARK was developed for the ATSC broadcast market. It uses the compact 1RU exciter hardware platform in conjunction with ATSC compatible firmware and d software. f Th ATSC-8000 The ATSC 8000 exciter is designed to work either in a stand-alone mode with OEM DTV transmitters or fully integrated in COMARK digital TV transmitters. Flexibility by Design The ATSC-8000 exciter’s core modulation and correction functions are handled by custom firmware that resides on internal Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). This architecture provides flexibility so as digital TV standards evolve and change, the processing can be upgraded and adapted to meet these new requirements, simply by loading new firmware. Beyond the FPGA technology, the exciter platform incorporates a microcontroller for user interface to the monitor and control functions. Custom software running in the exciter provides user access through various Man-Machine Interfaces (MMI) provided from the ATSC8000 8000. DAP Technology Streamlines Performance The ATSC-8000 exciter integrates Digital Adaptive Precorrection (DAP) technology, which provides superior performance that is unattainable using any other correction technique. DAP technology provides unsurpassed digital correction of all distortions created by a DTV transmitter system. These distortions include nonlinear distortions created by active amplifier devices, such as amplitude and phase distortions along with correction for memory effect. Additionally DAP corrects linear distortions created by the transmitter’s high-power passive RF system, such as group delay and frequency response distortions maximizing the SNR performance. Advanced Monitoring & Control The ATSC-8000 exciter incorporates local control and monitoring using a newly enhanced user interface front panel with backlit LCD display, LED’s, and menu driven push buttons. Local access includes menus for initial setup, configuration status and control functions status, functions. This technology allows for simple and easy setup and maintenance of a high performance transmitter system. The front panel also displays the real time output RF shoulder levels as well as the SNR performance. • Compact 1RU platform, integrated • Industry Leading Digital Adaptive or stand-alone operation Precorrection (DAP) • Built-in GPS for SFN / Mobile DTV deployments KEY FEATURES • Flexible Architecture based on FPGA / integrated ARM • Compatible with A/53 and A/153 ATSC fixed and Mobile DTV standards • Dual TS inputs (DVB-ASI or SMPTE- • Optional ATSC A/110:2011 Single Frequency Network (SFN) 310M auto sensing), provides Compatible seamless A/B input redundancy • Software upgradeable (remote or local) • Dual memory locations; stores full and ½ power DAP and AGC settings Mobile TV www.comarktv.com Watch TV on the go Version ATSC‐8000‐3‐2013 PRODUCT DATA SHEET The ATSC-8000 exciter can also be remotely controlled using the Web GUI interface with nothing more than a PC running a standard web browser. The Web GUI allows users to retrieve information such as SNR, lower and upper RF shoulder measurements, user configuration, and alarms. Fixed & Mobile DTV C Compatibility tibilit The ATSC-8000 is fully compliant with the ATSC A/53 DTV standard. It features a frequency tolerance specification to within 1 Hz and true frequency agility across the entire UHF Bands 4 and 5. It is also available in VHF Band 1 or VHF Band 3 (users need to specify UHF vs VHF 1 / 3 at time of order) vs. order). The ATSC-8000 exciter is also compatible with the newly approved ATSC A/153 Mobile DTV standard. The exciter performs the postprocessing and modulation functions f Mobile for M bil DTV b broadcasting. d ti Upgrades are possible either locally or remotely via a WAN connection to the exciter(s). SFN Operation Enhance broadcast signal coverage and penetration in your market with multiple transmitters operating in Si l F Single Frequency N Network t k (SFN) mode. The ATSC-8000 exciter supports SFN operation using ATSC A/110:2011 compliant signaling; the exciter acts in the slave mode to the SFN adapter or mobile multiplexer. The SFN adapter inserts the appropriate timing information into the transport stream and the ATSC ATSC-8000 8000 exciters receive this information and are able to synchronize their emissions via a common 1PPS GPS time reference. For precise frequency control required in SFN operation, the exciter platform offers users two options. The ATSC-8000 i incorporates an iinternall GPS receiver; the user only needs to supply a compatible external antenna and feeder line. The second option allows an external 1PPS and 10MHz signals from a third party GPS receiver via dedicated rear panel interface connector. Seamless TS Input Switching The ATSC-8000 features two independent sets of dual (A & B) transport stream (TS) inputs. Therefore the exciter can be used with STL’s that have DVB-ASI or SMPTE-310M. Further, the dual TS inputs allow signal path diversity (i.e. one ASI TS feed via a fiber link and a second ASI TS feed via a STL microwave). The A & B TS switching can be set for automatic or manual depending on the user’s preference.
