Instructions for
Using DSE Templates
In Creative Memories Storybook Creator Plus

Import DSE Template:
With a blank page open in your
workspace, check to verify that the
Pages Tab is selected in the Tabs
Panel on the left. Then head up to
the Pages Section of the Home
Ribbon at the top of the screen and
click on Import Pages.
When the “Get Pages From Folders” box opens, navigate to the place on your
computer that you saved your downloaded DSE Template(s). (This may be a disc
drive if you’re accessing Templates from a DSE cd.) Click on the Template Image
that you desire, and click the Get Pages button at the bottom of the Box.
Storybook Creator will open the
template within your saved layout,
and you’re now ready to insert
photos.

Inserting Photos:
Switch to the Photos Tab on the Tabs Panel and click on
Get Photos at the top of the Photos Panel. If you use
Memory Manager, you can select this option from the flyout menu, but if you don’t have photos loaded into
Memory Manager, select From File.
When the “Get Photos From
Folder” box opens up, navigate to
the place on your computer where
your photos are stored and
organized. Select specific photos
you wish to insert into your layout
and click the Get Selected Photos
button, or load all the photos from
the selected folder by clicking the
Get All Photos button at the
bottom of the box.
Storybook Creator will load all
selected photos into the Photos
Panel. Drag and drop each
photo into the designated photo
frames within the layout
template.
After the photo snaps into the
photo frame, click on it once,
and then you can adjust the
photo to get a better view of the
subject by grabbing the cross
hairs in the middle of the
framed picture and sliding them in any direction you wish. (If the photo will not
move, it’s because there is not any excess photo beyond the frame in that
particular direction.) Further photo adjustments can be made using the segments in
the Format Photos Ribbon at the top of the screen.

Filling Template Elements With Photos:
Sometimes the shape that you want to fill
with a photo is not the standard Storybook
Creator rectangle photo frame or preloaded
shape. The good news is that we can fill any
shape element with your photos. The bad
news is that you have to get your photo
trimmed down as close to the destination
shape size as possible first.
So, before inserting your photo, crop it to the
approximate dimensions of the destination
element. (To crop your photo, right click on
the photo in the Photos Panel and select
Crop from the fly-out menu.
Within the Crop an Image box,
adjust the crop lines using the
transform handles until you think
you’ve outlined the correct
dimensions. Press the Crop
button.

When the photo is cropped,
make sure the element to fill
is selected in the layout, and
then right click again on the
photo in the Photos Panel.
Select “Fill the Selected
Element With This Photo”
from the fly-out menu.
Storybook Creator will insert
your photo into the selected
element.

You can rotate or resize the
entire element/photo, but
you cannot adjust your photo
placement within the
element.
Hint: Storybook Creator will fill the shape starting with the upper left corner of the
photo. So if you don’t get it just right on the first try, simply click Undo at the top of
the workspace and try again.
Hint 2: Sometimes the photo is too big for its corresponding element. To get the
photo to fit, simply expand the element before filling it with the photo… then shrink
the photo-filled element back down to the appropriate size.
Replacing Template Journaling:
To replace the Template
Journalling with your own
text, simply double click on
the words within the
template. A text box will
open. Erase the Template
message and type a
personalized message within
the box. Change the font,
type size, style and color
using the Font Segment of
the Format Text Ribbon at
the top of the screen. And
justification adjustments can
be found in the Paragraph
Segment.

Filling Elements with Paper:
Make sure the element to fill with paper is selected
in your layout. Click on the Content Tab to access
the Content Panel within the Tabs Panel. Select
Papers at the top of the Content Panel. Click on
the Package drop-down arrow and find desired
DSE kit. (See Instructions for Installing DSE Kits in
Storybook Creator.)
Click on the DSE kit in the drop-down menu to
populate the Content Panel with DSE kit pieces
and your ready to fill the element.
Choose and right click on one
of the papers in the panel
and pick “Fill Selected
Shape” from the fly-out
menu. Storybook Creator will
replace the gray template
element with digital paper.

Adding Embellishments to Template Layout:
You may, on occasion, wish
to add or replace template
elements with kit
embellishment to add even
more personality to your
layout. To do this, make
sure the Contents Panel is
active and select
Embellishments at the top of
the Panel. Verify that the
desired kit or package is
selected in the Package
drop-down menu.
Simply choose an embellishment from the list of embellishment images in the
Content Panel. Click and drag it to your layout and resize or reposition as needed.
(Caution: Emebellishment expansion may cause reduced resolution or image
quality.)
