ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Electrical Engineering was started in 1967. The Department is offering B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and M. Tech. in Power Electronics and Electrical Drives and in Power Systems. The Department is also offering PhD programmes. The Department’s various Laboratories are equipped with latest equipments, Computers and latest Software related to subjects. ABOUT THE INSTITUTE The institute was established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College and was given a Deemed University status on 4th October 2002 as a National Institute of Technology. Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) Surat is one of the twenty National Institutes of Technology in India. The institute is located 10 kms away from Surat Railway Station. Surat is located about 250 kms from Mumbai on MumbaiBaroda Western railway line. It has many industries like RIL, ONGC, KRIBHCO, L &T ESSAR NTPC, GAIL over and above the Textile, Zari and Diamond Industries. The temperature of the city in the month of June remains in the range of 28 oC to 35oC COURSE CONTENTS The course will content the following areas but not limited to: • Distribution automation. • Emerging trends in Power Systems. • Challenges and implementation issues in Smart Grid initiative. • Simulation of Small Hydro Power Plant. • Reliability assessment of Small Autonomous Power System in presence of Renewable Energy Resources. • Distribution Generation Placement. • Small Signal Stability Analysis of Power System. • Application of Evolutionary Algorithms on Wind Integrated Power Systems and Distribution Network.
