Jayvantrai Harrai Desai Polytechnic, Palsana and The Institution of Engineers
(India), South Gujarat Local Centre, Surat have jointly organized a Two Days
Seminar on Recent Trends in Manufacturing and Quality Engineering on 1 st and 2nd
March, 2014 and is supported by Dr. Saurabh J. Desai Charitable Trust, Navsari.

Brief about Seminar :
The seminar was held at Mahida Bhavan, Opp. SVNIT, Surat. It started with the
prayer of omnipresent almighty and lightning of the lamp. The Chief Guest,
Mr. Ganesh K. Iyer, Vice President (Procurement) of Essar Steel Limited, Hazira,
Surat and the dignitaries were welcomed with bouquet and memento.
The speakers from various industries and leading engineering institutes were invited
to share their expertise on the related subjects like, TQM, Six Sigma, Taguchi
Technique, Metal Forming, 3D Printing, Non-conventional Machining, Ultimate &
Lean Six Sigma, 5-S, Kaizen, Quality Circle, TPM etc. for the participants.
Total of 117 participants from various reputed institutes and industries were taken
part in the seminar. There were 23 engineering institutes affiliated to GTU and
corporate sector like HILTI Manufacturing Industries Pvt. Limited took the advantage
of the same. Seminar proved to be of great learning valve and interaction platform
for faculty members and students.
This seminar is being organized as a part of community development activities by
Dr. Saurabh J. Desai Charitable Trust, Navsari. This trust’s main goal is to promote
education in rural areas.

Mr. Shrikant Mehta started the seminar with sharing his immense knowledge on
“History & Evolution of Quality Management and Emerging Trends in Coming Days”.
He explained about different aspects of quality in manufacturing industries.

Afterwards, Dr. T. N. Desai put light on knowledge on “Total Quality Management –
Philosophies and Implementation”.In his topic he covered the all the aspects of total
quality of product.
Expert talk by Dr. H. K. Dave, Asstt. Professor, Mechanical Engineering Deptt., SVNIT, Surat
Post lunch session was taken over by Dr. H. K. Dave. He delivered a lecture on
“Design of Experiments – Taguchi & ANOVA Analysis”. He also emphasized on
Taguchi’s view to reduce the time during the process.
Expert talk by Dr. K. P. Desai, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, SVNIT, Surat
Dr. K. P. Desai started proceedings on his topic “Recent Trends in Non-conventional
Machining”. He covered in depth about different aspects of Non-conventional
Machining.
Expert talk by Mr. C. K. Desai, Asstt. Professor, Mechanical Engineering Deptt., CKPCET, Surat
Mr. C. K. Desai started his lecture on “Deformation Measurement Methods in Metal
Forming : Experimental Approach”. He also highlighted the constitution, salient
featuresand research activities in Deformation Measurement Methods of Mechanical
Engineering.
Expert talk by Mr. J. J. Pandya, Dy. GM. Essar Steel Limited, Hazira, Surat
Mr. J. J. Pandya interacted on his topic “Ultimate Six Sigma – A Case Study”. He
gave the introduction about new generation advance technologies and explained
basic working principal and its advantages for industries.
Expert talk by Dr. A. A. Shaikh, Asso. Professor, Mechanical Engineering Deptt., SVNIT, Surat
Dr. A. A. Shaikh started his lecture on “Recants Trends in Manufacturing
Engineering : 3D Printing. He explained to faculty as well as students that with help
of this software and new technique, they can able to do design and manufacturing
components very rapidly and efficiently.
Expert talk by Dr. H. K. Raval, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, SVNIT, Surat
Dr. H. K. Raval started his lecture on “Recants Trends in Metal Forming Industries :
A Case Study”. He also suggestedto start innovation to metal forming field.
Expert talk by Mr. T. D. Shastri, Manager, HLE Engineering, Maroli, Navsari
Mr. T. D. Shastri started his topic on Explosion Bond Cladding. He discussed about
this technique.He also gave brief idea about the complete process steps. He also
explained many case studies of the industries related to this.
Expert talk by Dr. R. L. Shrivastava, Professor, YCCE, Nagpur
Dr. R. L. Shrivastava started his lecture on “Six Sigma in Manufacturing”. He also
informed about the benefits of this software in manufacturing industries. He shared
his knowledge about Six Sigma.
Expert talk by Dr. N. K. K. Prasanna, Sr. VP, Reliance Industries Limited, Surat
Dr. N. K. K. Prasanna started his views on the topic on “Advanced Maintenance and
Management Technique. He also gaveinformation about recent technique and
covered mostly all points of advanced maintenance and management.He gave the
information about the current scenario of industries in India. He pointed about the
demand and supply.
During the inaugural function and after the presentations, on behalf of
JayvantraiHarrai Desai Polytechnic, Palsana, presented memento to the dignitaries
as well as speakers.

Valedictory Function:
