Press release Haniel publishes first corporate responsibility report It focuses on value orientation and sustainability as a management responsibility Duisburg, 28 April 2014. Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH has published its first corporate responsibility report entitled Wertepapier. Therein, the strategic holding company explains how it enshrines corporate responsibility in the core business and how this affects the divisions in the portfolio. Based on an extensive stakeholder survey, action areas were identified that the respondents considered most relevant for the corporate responsibility activities of the Group. These include areas such as innovation, the value-added chain and employees in which Haniel will combine its CR activities, measure progress and release regular communications in future. Haniel brought on board Dr Nikolaus Schneider, Chairman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany, for an introductory discussion in the report on the opportunities that arise from sustainable business. The discussion between Nikolaus Schneider and Haniel CEO Stephan Gemkow covers issues such as business ethics in times of climate change and financial crises. “Haniel has had corporate responsibility in its DNA for 258 years. We are now proceeding to deal with the issue as a holistic management concept,” says Stephan Gemkow. The report documents the Group’s first steps towards implementing this in the core business. “We want to be a role model in this respect and are convinced that this will enable us to bring our divisions to a market-leading position.” Franz Haniel & Cie.
