Science meets European Patent Office (EPO)

IRCCS OSPEDALE SAN RAFFAELE
In collaboration with De Simone and Partners (IP law firm) and
Fondazione Telethon, Ospedale San Raffaele is very pleased to have the
opportunity to introduce to its scientific community the Patent Examiners
working at the European Patent Office (EPO).
The EPO, the patent granting authority for Europe, supports innovation,
competitiveness and economic growth across Europe through a
commitment to a high quality and efficient patent system.
EPO’s examiners, each expert in a different discipline, will (i) introduce
the audience into the main, basic aspects and concepts of intellectual
property and patent protection, and (ii) talk about patentability
requirements in three specific fields of interest (Gene Therapy, Cellbased Immunotherapy and Biologics). All with a focus on what is needed
to get a valid patent in the field, the requirement of unity of invention,
what minimum information is required in the priority application, and
real examples and applications.
The main objective of this event is to bring together science and IP law
and provide best practice in patent protection.
The target audience are scientists, students, post-Doc working at basic
translational and clinical projects that could benefit of key and useful
tips for everyday lab life. This is a unique opportunity to interact with
qualified examiners and learn more about patentability requirements in
science.
