INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY Medical Devices Team We consider ourselves well placed to assist our clients in maximising their intellectual property protection across all aspects of medical devices, and to provide advice on the rights of others in this field. Areas in which we have particular experience include stents; materials such as dental, ophthalmic and orthopaedic materials; ophthalmic devices including retinal implants and ophthalmic lenses; nebulisers and drug delivery systems; wound healing systems; tissue culture systems and tissue scaffold materials; implantable sensors and other diagnostic instruments; surgical instruments; catheters and syringes. Our Medical Devices Team is made up of patent attorneys and technical specialists from a variety of technical backgrounds (e.g. engineers, chemists, materials scientists and biochemists), which enables us to bring a wide range of experience to assist our clients in the medical devices field. We handle a substantial number of opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office (both defending and opposing granted patents) and have considerable experience in due diligence work, infringement opinions, portfolio management and advising our clients on their patent strategy.
