CARNIVAL COMES TO
RYHALL SCHOOL
Hello again! I hope that the wet weather over the last couple
of weeks hasn’t affected you all too much. My Journey along
the A1 has hit lots of traffic in the last week, but thankfully
we haven’t yet had any snow.....watch out this weekend
though!
So the heat of Brazil arrived at Ryhall School last week as our
children took part in a samba drumming session. Everyone
was involved and the drums and shakers and whistling would
certainly fit with the stadiums of Rio for this year’s Football
World Cup. It was a wonderful day and you can see Burghley
Class enjoying themselves in a video on our website. Music
has featured highly in our school just lately as on Thursday
afternoon last week we had the pleasure of Tony Parkinson in
School. He led the school through a superb music workshop
which has left us with some music to turn into our own School
song. This is being followed up in Literacy lessons as we become lyric writers fitting our own words to the rhythm of the
music.
We are also proud to announce that Mrs McLearnon has been
appointed as our new teacher in Burghley Class. She is currently teaching in Cambridgeshire and will be visiting us over
the next few weeks to get to know us all. I know you will
make her feel very welcome when she does eventually join us
in the Ryhall team.
Our staff team have been exploring new technologies and
have each built their own class blogs. Over the next couple of
weeks you will see each one advertised. Do please log in and
view some of our class work, and encourage others to view it
too! The idea is the children are writing for a much wider audience and it has been proven to raise standards in writing.
As blogging is also part of the new curriculum due to be
rolled out in September we are looking forward to seeing how
far away our viewers come from.
Have a good weekend and enjoy our latest news!

HAMBLETON CLASS
Over the last couple of weeks Hambleton Class
have continued their Roman theme with a look
at Queen Boudicca and her dramatic defeat by
the Roman Army. We were roving reporters at
the scene and have written news articles to describe the events. We have also been investigating the different types of Gladiator there
were and writing commentaries on a Gladiator
fight that you will hopefully be able to soon
read on our new Blog, which you can find at
http://hambletonclass.edublogs.org
We also joined with the whole school in learning how to play Samba Drums, which we thoroughly enjoyed as well as our HUGE treat this
week involving a Photography Workshop! We
learnt how to use a camera to take the perfect
picture, using light and reflection, and were
given the opportunity to take portraits, action
shots, close ups and group photographs
throughout the day. All had a brilliant time and
we learnt loads. There may even be the potential David Bailey in Hambleton Class.

BURGHLEY CLASS
This week Burghley Class have had a
very important job to do. We were sent a
letter from the Wonka Chocolate Factory
asking to help with their 50th Anniversary celebrations of the famous Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory book! They
asked us to write a new chapter for the
book inventing a new room and a new
character. We have had great fun thinking up new characters and then deciding
what might happen to them in their adventure in our new room called the
‘Lollipop Lounge’. We used speech in
our writing this week and also added
short sentences to add more suspense
to the adventures too. In maths we have
been using chocolate to help us to understand fractions and we are all even
beginning to use the proper mathematical language to describe the numbers in
a fraction too. In Science we have set up
and interesting investigation looking at
how different drinks affect our teeth. We
couldn’t find anyone willing to have a
tooth pulled out to donate to our experiment so we have used egg shells instead!! We will let you know what we
find out about the drinks.
Burghley Class are also trying to go
global and share our fantastic work with
the world! We have set up a Burghley
Blog which we will begin to use to share
our work and our brilliant learning. So
please feel free to log on and leave us
some comments and spread the Burghley Blog address so we can see who we
can get to read and comment on our
work. The blog address is http://

ROCKINGHAM CLASS
This week our ‘India’ theme has focussed on the Hindu festival of Diwali. We have read and ordered the story of Rama
and Sita ready for writing our own version of the story. In
maths we have been learning
about shape and used our knowledge of
symmetry
to make
Rangoli patterns. We
have also
designed and made clay diva pots. We
developed our clay skills by carving and attaching little
shapes to decorate our divas.
Once they are dry we will be
painting them. We are getting
really excited about next week
as we are off to the Bombay
Cottage to taste Indian food on
Monday. It is also our class assembly on Thursday 6th February @ 11.25 (apologies
that the date was misprinted in a letter).

TOLETHORPE CLASS
The children in Tolethorpe Class have been researching how the ancient Romans bathed, the
foods they ate, the clothes they wore and how
children were taught. It turns out that Roman
children used tablets too! In Maths they’ve
been learning how to count the Roman way using Roman numerals, and also continuing to
develop their knowledge and skills working
with decimal numbers. In Science the children
have thinking about forces around them, like
gravity and friction. All things we showed off in
our Class Assembly on Thursday.
