Visit working studios and find beautiful works of art in clay, glass, wood, metal and fiber, as well as tasty cheeses made from sheep’s and cow’s milk. Enjoying the simple pleassure of driving the back roads of southeastern Vermont at your own pace in search of art and craft is a gift in itself. If you are coming from the south, not far from Exit 4 off I-91, there will be an exhibit of at the Gleanery restaurant in the center of Putney village where you can preview samples of each craftsperson’s work during the whole month of November. Using the map, plan the studios you would like to visit during the tour, and follow the numbered signs and red arrows to studios in the villages of Putney, Saxtons River, Westminster, and Westminster West. The extent of demonstrations will vary at each studio, but the artisans who will be demonstrating their craft during the tour are indicated by a d symbol next to their name. All artists will be available to discuss their work. Last year we celebrated 35 years of the Putney Craft Tour! This photo features members from the 2013 tour and includes Margot Torrey whose inspiration helped create the studio tour in 1978. Several of the founding members still open their studios each year for this event, which is the oldest continuing craft studio tour in North America. Most studios are open all year by appointment, but all are open from 10am-5pm on the three days after Thanksgiving for this open studio event. Some studios are wheelchair accessible.
