Family Enrichment Ireland presents Dr. Kevin Majeres speaking on The Optimistic Family Sunday, June 8th 2014 With the rise of the field of positive psychology, the concept of virtue has returned to psychological discussions. For instance, Dr. Martin Seligman has recently written about the psychology of optimism, saying: "Teaching children optimism is more than just correcting pessimism . . . It is the creation of a positive strength, a sunny but solid future-mindedness that can be deployed throughout life - not only to fight depression and to come back from failure, but also to be the foundation of success and vitality.” In this talk, Dr Majeres will discuss insights like this one, and the important role of ideals and virtues in mental health. He will also address the crucial role of parents in setting the optimal conditions, and addressing potential problems, in the emotional development of their children. Dr Kevin Majeres is on the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School. Specialising in the treatment of anxiety disorders, he has a private psychiatric practice in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
