Program Overview - Foothill Hoops Flyers Travel Team program is a year-round program divided into 4, three month seasons Player’s participation is based on a season by season basis with returning players receiving priority consideration for the next season. - The program is designed for competitive level of play and participation in team practices and intensive training is expected. - Players are selected to the teams based on their skill level, commitment to the program, and overall fit with the program’s goals and philosophies. - Teams are coached by high school and collegiate level coaches, and Foothill Hoops certified coaches. 2. Practices - Each team will have 1 team practice per week, usually Sunday afternoons @ Rosemont, FIS, or the AST gym. - Each player will also attend 1 practice or 1 training session on a weeknight depending on the season o During the Spring and Summer seasons, players attend practice for their FHB league team o During the FHB off-seasons, players attend one training session on a weeknight at the AST gym - Team practices are between 75-90 minutes each, with the first part of practice focused on team training and the last part of practice usually dedicated to full court scrimmage. - FHB league team practices last for 60 minutes - The skills training session once per week will be conducted by AST trainers – team coaches’ attendance is not required, although some may attend these sessions. - On weekends with tournaments, Sunday practices will most likely not be held. - Please see the Schedule Page, or www.foothillhoops.org for specific practice schedules 3. Games / Tournaments - Teams will typically play in 1 tournament per month, with the other 3 weekends being dedicated to practice. - (On weekends with a tournament, there is generally no Sunday practice) - Tournament locations / cities in the past have included (and might be included this season as well): Pasadena, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, San Fernando Valley, San Bernardino, Orange County - Tournaments are typically within reasonable driving distance. - Tournament days are generally on Saturdays – they typically consist of more than 1 game, and sometimes go into Sunday as well. - Game times are usually made available a just few days before the tournament day – Foothill Hoops will email the times as soon as possible, as well as post them on our website as much as possible (www.foothillhoops.org) - Tournament fees will be collected for each tournament – this might range from about $10-$30 4. Roster & Playing Time - Roster size is between 10-12 players per team. For some teams, there may be additional players designated as ‘alternates’. - Alternates will practice with the team, and may play in games if needed to fill the spot of an absent player. - During tournament participation, each player on the team roster and present at the tournament will play a minimum of 5 minutes per 20 minute half (Playing time rules do not necessarily apply to team scrimmages). - The coach may invite an alternate to fill a vacant spot and participate in tournament play. 5. Uniforms & Equipment - Uniforms will be provided by Foothill Hoops at no charge, and must be returned to us if your player will no longer be playing on the travel team. - Full uniforms (tucked in) will be worn at all tournaments and friendly games but not necessary for team practices. - Each player should bring to team practices and skills training sessions a properly inflated basketball. 6. Communication & Contact - Communication is critical for the travel team to be successful. - Basketball is a team sport and the entire team practicing and training together is a crucial part of building the team’s long-term success. - Every player should plan to attend every practice, training session, and games. - If a player is unavailable or otherwise can’t attend a practice, training session, or a game, please communicate that to the coach as early as possible. - TEAM MANAGER: Each team requires a Team Manager whose duties include assisting the league with team administration and facilitating communication between the coach and the parents. He/She will be the liaison between the coach and the parents, as well as the league and the parents. - Please talk with your coach to get direct contact information, and to find out which method of contact they prefer – whether that is through email, txt, phone or through the Team Parent only. - Questions regarding team practices and AST training should be directed to Coach Mike at: [email protected]. - For travel season specific questions (including schedules, payments, etc.) please contact Paul Young at: [email protected]. 7.
