October 13 and 14, Fall 2014 Dance Marathon 21 Dancer Information Packet 2 Welcome to Dancer Meeting 2! What do we do? How do we do it? What’s next? The University of Iowa Dance Marathon creates and sustains special projects to provide emotional and financial support for pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Dancers have the unique opportunity to directly affect change in not only the University of Iowa pediatric oncology community, but the global community, by attending special events and fundraising for University of Iowa Dance Marathon. This packet contains valuable resources detailing opportunities within Dance Marathon to meet your fundraising goals, how to deepen your involvement, and information on upcoming events that you can get involved in to make a change. Dancer of the Month University of Iowa Dance Marathon’s Dancer of the Month recognizes an individual who is a positive representative of Dance Marathon. They show their lime by attending events with their Morale Group, encouraging others to get involved, and maintaining a passion for Dance Marathon. This month, we’d like to recognize Ally Schnoor of Group 7 as the September 2014 Dancer of the Month! Ally is a firstyear dancer, and is already making an impact. Group 7 Morale Captain, Chloe Griffin, says that “Ally has immediately become very serious with her fundraising.” Ally has taken advantage of Dance Marathon’s fundraising parties, where she’s written donation letters to friends and family. But beyond fundraising, Ally is spreading her lime. “With one glimpse at her Facebook, it is easy to tell that she is maximizing her time with DM,” says Chloe. Ally’s passion for Dance Marathon is evident and inspiring. “It’s obvious that she has a big heart and is enjoying her experience.” Congratulations, Ally! Matching Gifts Things to Know About Matching Gifts ● On a matching gift form, the donor should indicate that the donation was made to: University of Iowa Foundation (Dance Marathon) 1 West Park Road Iowa City, IA 52242 ● Cash donations cannot be matched ● Do not fill out any portion of your donor’s matching gift form ● In order to receive credit for the matching gift, you MUST submit the matching gift form as outlined below! Many businesses will match the charitable contributions of their employees. For example, if you have a friend who works at Rockwell Collins, and your friend donates to Dance Marathon, Rockwell Collins will also donate to Dance Marathon. Be sure to ask each of your donors if their employer has a matching gift program, and if UI Dance Marathon qualifies for this program. Your donor can find out if their company matches donations at this website: http://www.uifoundation.org/ways/matching/ Then, they can obtain the appropriate form from their employer and fill out their portion before giving it to you. Some companies may also have online matching gift request submissions. How to submit a matching gift form ● If a donor gives you a matching gift form on paper, please give it to Katharine Marshall, the Sponsorship Director. ● If a donor emails you a matching gift form, please email it to Katharine Marshall, the Sponsorship Director at [email protected]. ● If a donor’s company has an online submission process, please email acknowledgement of their submission (email confirmation, screenshot, etc) to Katharine Marshall, the Sponsorship Director at [email protected]. If you have any questions about matching gifts (we know they can be pretty tricky), contact Katharine Marshall at [email protected]! 4 October 13 and 14, Fall 2014 Fundraising Parties Fundraising parties are still being held (almost) every Sunday at 9pm in the IMU!
