CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK
In accordance with agency policy, a criminal record check is conducted on every new
volunteer with the consent of the volunteer. Elizabeth Fry will provide a support letter
prior to applying for the document. We pay for record checks that are accompanied by a
receipt of payment. We cannot pay for record checks that have been paid for in advance
or have not been accompanied by a letter from our agency.
NOTE: A criminal record will not necessarily preclude a volunteer person from their role at the
Elizabeth Fry Society of Calgary and all information will be confidential. A criminal record check
must be obtained prior to the completion of a volunteer’s probationary period of three months.
Record management policies are in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
(FOI/POP) and generally accepted records retention, access and destruction principles. Only authorized
individuals have access to the files of the Society in each program area, on a “need to know” basis.
