The State Of Girls’ Education
In Developing Countries
Le Dessein | ‘luh-deh-san
French meaning The Endeavor or The Project, Le Dessein
was founded on the principles of empowering young girls in
struggling and underprivileged communities around the world
by contributing to their education through art. Our mission is to
collect a range of artwork (photos, drawings, etc.) created by
these girls which we feature onto our fashion.
We guarantee 20% of our proceeds to help fund the $250 a year
cost of the a young girl’s school tuition.
Le Dessein is proud to support the More Than Me Foundation.
1 / Women and young girls in the developing world invest
90% of their income into their families; as compared to the
30-40% that men do.
Our giving partner, More Than Me, is located in Monrovia,
Liberia. Headed by the vibrant humanist Katie Meyler, its mission
is to provide education tuition to the more than 100 girls the
foundation works with within the slums of Monrovia. Through
the creation of scholarships and the cooperation of community
leaders, More Than Me is able to offer the opportunity of an
education. The foundation’s next mission is to raise funds for a
‘safe home’ with water and electricity where the girls can return
after school and learn marketable skills.
2 / Amongst the 115 million 6-12 year old kids who are not in
school - 65 million of them are girls.
3 / An extra year of primary school boosts a girl’s future
wages by 10% to 20% - An extra year of secondary school
increases that potential wage up to 25%.
