RWE GBS Polska celebrates its first anniversary, announcing
further employment plans for 100 new positions
On 1 October 2014, RWE GBS Polska, the RWE Group’s Shared Service Centre (SSC) located
in Cracow is going to celebrate the first anniversary of its activity. On this occasion, the
company has presented its current achievements, as well as development plans for the
next year, assuming enlarging the workforce.
The Cracow-based SSC forms an integral part of the RWE Group, one of the five largest energy
companies in Europe. RWE GBS Polska is one of several companies belonging to the RWE Group
in Poland. Other Group companies present on the domestic market include RWE Polska, which
supplies 950 000 Customers with electricity and gas, RWE Stoen Operator, which operates
as the Distribution System Operator in Warsaw, and RWE Renewables, managing RWE’s wind farms
in Poland, whose total capacity amounts to 197 megawatts.
Dynamic growth in the first year of operation
The Accounting and Financial SSC of RWE in Cracow provides services in the fields of accounting,
finance and HR administration for the companies belonging to the RWE Group. Since its
establishment, in September 2013, until now, the company has employed over 150 person. The first
year of operation was also marked by developing all the SSC’s operating procedures and by training
the recruited candidates. So far, RWE GBS Polska has taken over accounting and finance-related
services of 6 companies belonging to the RWE Group, and selected services in the area
of HR administration of 19 companies.
“This year has been the best confirmation that the decision to locate our SSC in Cracow was right.
We particularly appreciate the potential of employees with proper education and good knowledge
of foreign languages – and they are available on the Cracow job market. One of the reasons for
placing the SSC in Cracow was precisely the access to a large pool of graduates of prestigious
universities,” adds Konrad Konczewski, Head of RWE GBS Polska.
Young personnel, training system and professional development
As many as 69% of employees of RWE GSB Polska are young people, aged between 24 and 30. Thus,
they are at the initial stage of shaping their career paths. The main advantage of this group is their
command of foreign languages: German and English – prerequisite to be an employee at the SSC,
as well as higher education. 95% of employees are graduates of universities, whereas the remaining
5% are students.
Studies conducted by HR experts from MAN Accounting Centre have shown that people in this age
group – the representatives of the generation Y – especially value the opportunity of professional
development at their workplace: this is declared by as many as 78% of respondents.
“RWE GBS SSC offers a particularly attractive system of training for all new employees. Thanks to the
training, they are shown the ropes in the area of finance, accounting, and energy sector, which

enables them to start specializing in those business areas. The programme includes opportunities
of visits to other countries, allowing the employees not only for greater development, but also
to verify their capacities in a new working environment. With such a career path they can gain
experience in international business” says Konrad Konczewski, Head of RWE GBS Polska.
Enlarging employment after one year
The Center’s pace of development not only met but, in fact, exceeded the expectations of RWE
Group’s management. For this reason, RWE GBS Polska is initiating another recruitment programme,
aimed at enlarging the current staff. The recruitment campaign will take place in the Małopolskie,
Slaskie, Podkarpackie and Swietokrzyskie voivodeships and is starting in October. Target candidates
have fluent command of German and English. Given a specialized training programme is run for the
period of 2 up to 4 weeks, expertise in accounting and finance is not a necessary condition
so as to apply for jobs in the SSC. The main selection criterion is an advanced knowledge of the
languages mentioned.
Candidates may send their applications to the address [email protected] or use the tab
“Kariera w RWE” (“Career in RWE”) on the website www.rwe.pl, alternatively one may apply via the
pracuj.pl portal.
Increased employment is confirmed by Konrad Konczewski, Head of RWE GBS Polska: “The SSC’s
development plans assume a dynamic growth of employment in the teams dedicated to accounting.
RWE GBS is a perfect workplace for ambitious graduates with fluent German or English, interested
in finance and accounting.”
Over the next two years, RWE GBS Polska is going to take over the accounting and finance-related
service of yet other 10 companies belonging to the RWE Group, and by the end of this year it will
be rendering selected HR administration services to all the Group’s companies. At the beginning
of next year, the SSC is going to be relocated to its new headquarters that can potentially
accommodate 400 employees.
