Kinshasa Fire Service Donation 2012

March 22, 2012
Donated equipment has made it to the Kinshasa
Fire Service (Democratic Republic of the
Congo).
In July 2009 Firefighters Without Borders Canada responded to a request for assistance from the
Kinshasa Fire Department serving the capital city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In early
2010, 2 boxes of equipment were loaded onto a shipping container organized by the Rotary World Help
Network bound for the DRC.
The entire donation faced many beaucratic hurdles, as is often the case with many developing nations, but can
be especially challenging in Africa. That said, FWB Canada would like to announce the arrival and dispersal of
our inaugural donation of firefighting PPE (20 sets) to the Kinshasa Fire Service. The accompanying photos
were taken on February 12th, 2012.
Arrival the Ambassador of Canada, Jean Carol Furrier accompanied by Célestin Tangamo (Secretary of the
Rotary Club of Kinshasa) and Dan Mulinda (Protocol Officer of the Rotary Club of Kinshasa). The event took
place at the headquarters of the Fire Department of the City of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Several local media outlets were also in attendance. Notice on the right the 2 cardboard boxes containing the
donated equipment from FWB Canada.
The Canadian Ambassador is received by the Commander of the Kinshasa Fire Service, Colonel Ndjibu.
