Greetings to all the members and friends of the Adelaide Soaring Club. Spring has sprung and we
look forward to a great flying season ahead.
Many thanks to Patrick Pullis for supplying the photos from the Awards night – between two busy
schedules it has taken a while to exchange these and so this eNews is a little later than originally
hoped.
AGM
We had a terrific attendance of 51 members at the recent AGM on Saturday the 30 th September.
President Steve delivered his excellent report acknowledging members efforts and achievements
throughout the past year. Treasurer Geoff gave members an overview of the club’s financial
position which is in a very healthy state, despite flying stats being a little less than the previous
year.
The new committee was elected in as follows: Steve Pegler, Richard Atkinson, Ken Sumpter, Paul
Brown, Brenton Swart and Peter Sachs.
This still leaves the committee one member short, so if you are interested in nominating, please
speak to one of these people. At the first meeting of the new committee a secretary and treasurer
will be appointed.
There is a folder with copies of the president’s report and the financial report in the club house if
anyone would like a copy.
Awards and Dinner
Many thanks to the Awards Committee and the Social and House group for putting on another
excellent night which was really well attended by members.

House Group Award
In appreciation of outstanding contribution in assistance to the House Group or for work
related to enhancing club facilities.

Richard Deane Memorial Trophy
For best placing in the GFA national gliding championships.
Matthew won: Junior Nationals at Narromine, 15m Nationals at
Kingaroy in a standard class Discus 2, Sports Class Nationals at
Waikerie.

Regatta.

For the best performance at the Easter Regatta.
Graham Parker completed a flight of over 500k at more than
150kph.

Rowland Flat Airfield
There is currently a proposal before the Barossa Council to erect a
tower (100ft) in the vicinity of the Rowland Flat Airfield. This tower
would have some safety implications for all pilots using that airfield
and it would be highly impacting on the future of the Barossa Airshow
due to its proximity to the ‘display line.’
At the end of this eNews there is the relevant form for any member
who wishes to lodge an objection.
Did you know?
ASC member John Summers is to be congratulated on being elected to the position of President of
the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA). John is the 4th club member to be elected to this
position from our ranks in the 65 years of the GFA. No other Australian club has had as many
members elected to this position. Other members of board are Mandy Temple Vice President,
Peter Cesco South Australian Gliding Association Delegate, Terry Cubley is the GFA Executive
Officer. Terry has also been a GFA President and has also held many other positions on the GFA
board over many years.
70 years young…
Our club turns 70 this year. Make sure you keep the 25th October for a celebration which will
honour this special birthday. (Rumour has it that there might be a ‘Pig on the Spit’ happening!)
