Board of Stewards Report - SERVE Team
May, 2014
Care Ministries
 Twenty women took advantage of the Emory-St. Joseph‟s Mobile Mammography Unit at RUMC on April 14.
RUMC members and women from the surrounding community were served. The mobile unit will return
Thursday, Sept. 18.
 The Flower ministry has delivered 55 bouquets to homebound members and those in the hospital or rehab
facilities in 2014.
 We made 164 hospital visits and 41 homebound visits from January – April.
 12 GriefShare participants recently completed the biblically based 13-week course and shared the following:
“I am glad there was a safe place that we could talk about our loved one, how much we miss them, share our
hurts, tears and find out I am not the only one that feels like I am going crazy at times in my grief, thank you
for this outlet.” Lay leaders Paula Pope and Christi Howard will lead another GriefShare program beginning
Sept. 9.
 10 DivorceCare participants just completed the biblically based 13-week course and shared the following:
“This course gave me strength and helped me to rebuild a relationship with God. God will never give up on
us. It gave me the opportunity to meet wonderful people and share our stories.” Lay leader Sandra Nauman
will lead another DivorceCare program beginning July 8.
 A couple who took the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course at RUMC last summer called to let
the church know that they had a fire in their apartment and lost all of their material possessions, but were
thanking God that no one was injured. One of the most important items lost in the fire that they wanted to
replace as soon as possible was their Financial Peace University participant kit, as they were actively
applying the financial principles. The couple had been working hard and had paid off the majority of their
debt, and because of the FPU lesson on insurance, they had purchased rental coverage. We called the Dave
Ramsey group and they gifted the couple a new kit and their insurance settlement will allow them to
purchase a home. Financial advisors through the Dave Ramsey FPU group will now counsel the couple on
how to invest this settlement wisely. Lay leaders Pam Sligar and Jack Kreger will begin a new class on
Sunday, June 22.
 We had 34 people complete the Winter Dave Ramsey course; all implemented the “0” budget plan, and are
committed to paying off their debt. During the 9- weeks of the course, the class (as a whole) paid off over
$150,000.00 of debt.
 We currently offer 3 Yoga classes with an average attendance of 11-12 people per class.
 Rev. Nancy Lane is currently teaching a Bible study titled “That the World May Know” at Atria with 14
residents participating. One intention is to build relationships and to begin regular worship transportation from
Atria, formerly called Somerby.
 Stephen Ministry will begin a training class in August. Informational packets will be available in worship on
June 1.
 RUMC is working with Somerby on possibly adding a bus pickup/return for Sunday mornings.
Counseling Center/Support Groups
 The Counseling Center has had a total of 334 client sessions from January 01, 2014 to April 19, 2014.
 Alicia Gray resigned her position of Office Manager, and candidates are being interviewed for her
replacement.
 To date in 2014, over 8,700 people have attended support group meetings in the counseling center. The
counseling center is home to 34 meetings per week.
Volunteer Ministry and Missions
 RUMC hosted Family Promise guests March 16-23, in the Dod. We hosted three families of mothers and
their children (ages 7 to 16 years). With the coordination of our lead coordinators, Kathy Newman and Susan
Yeilding, and our food coordinator, Dee Boscoe, more than 40 volunteers served by setting up and cleaning
up the guest rooms, providing and preparing food throughout the week, staying overnight as hosts, and
laundering bed linens and towels. We receive regular reports from Family Promise about several of the
guests we have served. We were excited to learn that in just 6 months after leaving the program with new
housing and a new job, one mom has earned a promotion and is encouraging current guests that they „can
do this!” RUMC hosts again May 26- June 1.

career ministry .A representative from the US Department of Labor will present on the impact by faith and
community groups.
 A personal note was received that exemplifies how the Job Networking ministry is changing lives: “On this
Holiest of our holidays, we want to express our gratitude to you both for your kindness of heart and goodness
of soul to answer our needs during this very difficult year. Both of us felt we had no one to turn to. We were
