FROM THE CAPTAIN ....
SINGLES KNOCKOUT – Quarter Finals Saturday 22nd February
Congratulations to the winners in last weeks 2nd Round of the Singles Knockout. We are now
down to the final eight for the competition which includes Matt Mee, Ian Menzies, Andy Wong,
Geoff Cummins, Darren Morgan, Mike Stinson, David Tanner and Geoff White. A reminder
that handicaps will be those on the day of play and it will be played as knockout Match Play as
per the Match Index on the back of the scorecard. Ties will be decided by sudden death playoff.
Good Luck to all those participating.
GOLD MEDAL PLAYOFF & LONG DRIVE PLAYOFF - Saturday 05th April
Please note the Gold Medal Play & Long Drive playoff usually scheduled for the March medal day
each year will this year be played on Saturday 05th April. The Gold Medal will be played off all
medal winners and long drive winners between January and December 2013. The medal winner
will be decided on a nett stroke basis using handicaps of date of play. A tie will be decided by 18
hole nett stroke play-off, using original Gold Medal handicaps, on the next Club Medal Day or another day approved by the Match Committee.
NEW SLOPE/HANDICAP SYSTEM
For those of you struggling with the new Slope System, please follow this link to help you understand how it all works http://www.golflink.com.au/news/local-news/2014/01/new-ga-handicapsystem-information/. If still in doubt, please don’t hesitate to contact Justin.
CHANGE TO LATERAL WATER HAZARD AREAS on 6th and 16th holes
The area to the right of the 6th Green and short right of the 16th Green, which has been a “Garden
area” (blue staked), has become so overgrown it is now virtually impossible to clearly define
where the “Garden” ends and the Lateral Water Hazard area of the creek starts.
As a result, the Match Committee has decided to make the combined area a Lateral Water Hazard. That is, the area previously designated as Garden and the area previously a Lateral Water
Hazard, to the right of the 6th green and short right of the 16th green, will be a designated Later
Water Hazard.
This area will be clearly marked with the lateral water hazard Red line, at the end of February, effective from competitions starting on Saturday 1st March.
CORING OF THE GREENS:
Please note the Greens are next due to be cored on Wednesday 26th March. More details will
be available closer to that date.
EAGLES NEST (SPONSORED BY PRO SHOP)!!!!
Congratulations to Jan Bergin on winning the Ladies Eagles Nest on the 15th hole yesterday.
Jan was 109cm from the flag (ie, within the required 150cm) and wins 60 balls.

FROM THE CAPTAIN (continued)....
MIXED PENNANT:
On behalf of the Match Committee I would like to thank Greg Tucker who captained our Mixed
Pennant team over the past few weeks – his enthusiasm and love of the game was infectious
during a very successful campaign – here is Greg’s final wrap up
Report from Greg Tucker:
2014 will long be remembered for the many momentous and historic events that occurred worldwide, many of whichever are yet to come to fruition. While the final result and achievements of
the Gordon Mixed Pennant Team may not quite fit into that category, I believe they do however,
rate a mention and some celebration within the Gordon ranks. While we may not have won our
division, this was achieved by Beverley Park; we did wrap up second place with a 2 1/2-2 1/2
draw with Bexley last week at Bexley.
Not only should we celebrate the fact we came second in the division but, we also defeated Oatlands, last year’s Pennant winners, at Gordon. We also defeated these years’ divisional winners,
Beverley Park 4-1 at Gordon, we secured our first draw away from Gordon and had 1 player complete the season undefeated. All up I call that an extremely successful season and one the
broader Gordon membership should feel extremely proud about.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the players for their dedication, determination and their humour throughout the season. It was great fun playing with you all
and I feel very proud to have had the opportunity to be part of such a great team of people. I look
forward to next season and the even better results we know are there for the taking.
MAJOR PENNANT: Report from Graeme Inglis:
A disappointing day for the Cordeau Marshall Century 21 Major Pennant team on the weekend.
We hosted Glenmore at Gordon and unfortunately lost 5/2. Not a good start to the season however we have 4 more matches to redeem ourselves!
Well done to Duncan MacIver and Sean Hartman who were both able to win their matches.
A special mention to one of our Juniors, Leon Abe-Weatherhead, who made his Major Pennant
debut and was able to win his Reserve match.
Individual results were…
Duncan MacIver won 2 & 1
Sean Hartman won 4 & 3
Phil Waddell lost 6 & 5
Graeme Inglis lost 7 & 5
Steve Hayter lost 4 & 3
Frank Gurren lost 8 & 7
Colin Hort lost 3 & 2
Leon Abe- Weatherhead won 3 & 2
Our next game is at Northbridge on Sunday 23rd February.

TAYLORMADE DADDY LONG LEGZ
If you have seen Ollie or Steve holing putts on the greens from all sorts of distances of
late, the reason is they are both using the new Daddy Long Legz Putter by TaylorMade. No matter what length putter you favour – standard, mid-length or long -counterbalancing helps you roll the ball more accurately.
Daddy Long Legz is available in two lengths 38” and 35”. The idea is to grip the club as
you would a normal-length putter with two or three inches of the butt-end of the grip extended above your hands, which gives you the maximum benefit of counterbalancing (ie,
there is more weight in the grip of the putter). Thus, if you normally play a 35” putter you
should opt for the 38”; if you play a 33” putter should use the 35”; if you play a 34” putter
you can experiment with both the 35 and 38” to find which you prefer.

Oliver Neave will be hosting Golf Clinics throughout the next few months.
