FFA UPDATE
The NorthWood FFA is finishing this school year strong by taking
part in many year-end activities. The annual banquet was held
on April 24th where members were recognized for this year’s
achievements. Students have competed in the Small Engines
competition and worked with Fairfield for Livestock judging. The
Small Engines team of Emily Sheets and Travis Brovont
competed at State, finishing in 4th and the team of Dylan Harmon
and Dalton Tener placed 10th. The Livestock judging members
that are continuing on to State Livestock are Mark Jarvis, Natalie
Hostetler, and Brandi Henderson. Several students competed in
the FFA Leadership competition and were very successful. The
two girls that won their proficiencies were Emily Sheets and
Betsy Mikel. Emily received a gold ranking on her Ag
Communication proficiency then later resubmitted to compete to
win State and Betsy received a silver ranking for her dairy
production proficiency. Rebecca Homan and Kate Minder placed
second in their Food Science Demonstration. Shelby McFerren
placed third on her Agriculture & Farm Business Management
Demonstration while Alyssa Chupp and Betsy Mikel placed third
on their Multimedia Scrapbook. This year’s tractor restoration
team members are currently working on a Farmall F-20 which
belongs to Drew Chapman’s great great grandfather and Emily
Sheets is working on her Alice Chalmers C with her dad. We
plan to show the tractors at the Elkhart County Fair this summer.
Thanks to Butch Hamman, Howard Yoder and Drew’s great
great grandfather, Lowell Chapman, for making this project
possible. As school is coming to a close, many kids are gearing
up for the fairs. We hope you will visit local fairs and support our
FFA members.
THEATRE-IN-THE-ROUND
For its final production of the school year NorthWood Drama
has chosen a wonderful comedy by Neil Simon entitled The
Good Doctor. Based on characters created by Anton
Checkov, the play portrays various scenes from Mr.
Checkov’s most memorable plays in a new and very
entertaining way. Produced in the round these stories take
on even more intimate and endearing qualities. Admission
for the show is $4.00 per person and tickets are available at
the door. Production dates are Friday and Saturday, May 30
and 31 at 7:00 and Sunday, June 1 at 3:30. You won’t want
to miss this very successful comedy so make plans now to
attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

UNDERCLASS EXAMS
AND AWARDS
Please encourage your student to have an enjoyable, but
safe ending to this school year. It is of vital importance that
parents talk to teens about the seriousness of participating in
inappropriate activities, and of equal importance, that parents
not make arrangements for unsupervised parties. Please
encourage your students to work until the very end. Remind
your student to finish the year on a positive note.

Once again this year, NorthWood High School will be offering the mandatory IHSAA Participation Physical to NWHS
student/athletes that will participate on extra-curricular teams for the 2014-15 school year. We will have the statemandated Concussion Awareness Form that all athletes and parents are now required to sign before participating on
any team at NWHS. The cost of the physical is $25. Checks can be made out to NWHS. This will be the only day this
will be provided. It is a great opportunity for all NW athletes to get this completed before the fall season arrives. A
variety of doctors and nurses from our local offices have generously donated their time for this to be done. If you
should have any questions, please feel free to contact the NW Athletic Department.
