Honey Harbour Association AGM
July 14, 2014
At last year’s AGM due to a tie in the voting there were 16 directors elected to the Honey Harbour
Association. This year five directors have chosen to step down from the Board. The retiring directors
are: Al Hazelton, Tom Bain, John Elgar, Paul Percheson and Al Will. We thank all the retiring Directors
for their dedication and long service and the important contributions they have made for the Honey
Harbour community.
The remaining 11 directors are choosing to continue to remain on the Board for another year. Those
directors are: Peter Koetsier, Carolyn Heron, Cam Shaw, Tim Pawlowski, Stephen Murch, Kathy Kay,
Larry Enfield, Alan Waffle, Bill Cooper, Andrew Severs and Lisa Harding. We also have four members
who have agreed to stand as Directors for the 2014/2015 term. They are Cary Ledingham, familiar to
many as a former Hoots Editor and HHA Director, returning to the board and, Jane Dunker, Jill Ukrainec
and Kathryn Davis who would be new to the board this year.
The Nominating Committee of the Honey Harbour Association is recommending the slate of candidates
listed below for its Board for the 2014/2015 term. Please read their biographies to become familiar with
these prospective Board members. We believe this slate brings a broad range of experience,
knowledge, talents and professional skills to the Board along with a strong desire to serve the Honey
Harbour community through the Honey Harbor Association.
HHA 2014/15 Director Nominee Background Information
Peter Koetsier:







Cottager in North Honey Harbour for 40+ years
Long-time family association with the HHA and HHCI
Two years on the HHA Board including one year as President
Represents the HHA at the GBA, on Water Levels and Boating Safety committees
Currently Treasurer on the Board of the Georgian Bay Land Trust
Accounting and Administration Executive in Barrie, Ontario
A wide range of interests in Honey Harbour and HHA issues including the completion and occupancy
of the new Schoolhouse facility and environmental protection and planning matters.
Carolyn Heron




Cottager in North Honey Harbour since the early 1970’s, purchasing the family cottage in 1992 and
now permanent residents in Honey Harbour
HHA Director since 2012 and President of the Honey Harbour Tennis Club for the past four years
Professional career included Municipal Recreation, Accounting and Financial Planning.
Primarily concerned with environmental issue affecting water quality and the project of completing
the Schoolhouse building.
Stephen Murch





Life-long cottager in North Honey Harbour, purchasing the original family cottage in 1984
HHA Director since 2001 working on Membership, Winter Patrol and various other assignments
Represented Honey Harbour on the GBA Board for 10 years Chairing the Boating and Safety
Committee and contributing to early work on Water Levels issue.
Master Mariner worked as Captain on commercial ships throughout the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence
and internationally and in Senior Management positions in Shipping and Marine Logistics
Primarily concerned with water quality and water levels and building an effective HHA
Cam Shaw






3rd generation owner of family cottage in Beausoleil Bay area
Retired and now permanent resident in Honey Harbour
HHA Director since the late 1990’s
Chair of the Honey Harbour Community Church for 20+ years
Involved with Schoolhouse and property maintenance 10+ years
Committed to working together with all user groups of the Schoolhouse facility
Alan Waffle








Cottager in Honey Harbour since 1955
Early involvement in HHA and Junior HHA
Rejoined the HHA Board in 2013
Completed first water quality survey in Honey Harbour in late 1960’s
Currently represents Honey Harbour on GBA Board
Professional Chemical Engineer – Retired
Former Secretariat to the Great Lakes Bi-national Toxic Strategy
Primary interest it to continue as GBA as representative on Environmental committees regarding the
implementation of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and assisting with Water Levels issue.
Bill Cooper






Cottager in South Bay, Honey Harbour for 21 years
Joined the HHA Board in 2013
Currently spend Spring, Summer, Fall and part of the winter enjoying the Georgian Bay
Business Manager of US and European Companies operating in Canada
Currently President and CEO Espera/ Cooper Canada
Would like to encourage more Association members to participate in the process HHA initiatives and
development
Larry Enfield





Cottager in HH all his life and owner in 1983 and recently rebuilt his cottage
Joined the HHA Board in 2013 as Secretary and Governance Committee
Lawyer since 1977 in Toronto, currently at Enfield Wood Law firm
Volunteered on many charity boards and at St James Cathedral
Would like to help re examine the association mandate with members input and supporting and
developing community programs
Andrew Severs:




Cottager in North Honey Harbour for 24 plus years
Joined the HHA Board in 2013 – redeveloped website and assisted in Communications and
Membership
Mechanical Engineer, consulting & project management, 3D printing
Active in camping, kayaking, hiking and outdoor sports


Keen interest in environmental issues, will contribute in any area required. Specialty in computer
and web related requirements
Will bring younger person's perspective to the board
Tim Pawlowski







Honey Harbour four season cottager since 1996
Insurance Business professional
Director Honey Harbour Community Church Inc.
Director Honey Harbour Association Inc.
Chair of Building Committee & Operating Committee
Key long term issues are water quality & water levels
Objective as a board member is to assist with the completion of Jackson Hall for the enjoyment of all
HHA members.
Lisa Harding




Life-long cottager in Honey Harbour, family cottage in Honey Harbour since 1930
HHA Director for one year focusing on Membership Development and Communications
Special Education Teacher at York Regional District School Board
Would like to see a greater awareness of what the HHA does and an increase in membership
Kathy Kay:




Life-long cottager in Honey Harbour with family association dating back to the 1800’s
A background in Accounting, Finance and Administration with public, private and charitable
organizations
Two years on the HHA Board as Hoots Editor, Communications Director, Editor of Newsletter,
Advertising Director for Hoots and Cottager publications, and editor of the “Hoots Coffee Table”
book.
Continuing to work in the area of communications.
Cary Ledingham




A life-long cottager in North Honey Harbour
Background as Legal Clerk and in small business administration
Editor of Hoots for several years
Previously served on the HHA Board and assisted as needed on numerous occasions
Jane Dunker





A cottager in Honey Harbour for over 20 years
Background in Business Management and Financial Planning
Retired in 2011
Recently the Dunkers have made Honey Harbour their permanent residence at their water-access
property
Interested in giving back to the Honey Harbour Community through the HHA
Jill Ukrainec




A long-time, passionate, Honey Harbour cottager
Served on the HHA Jackson Hall committee and assisted the Nominating Committee in recent years
Background in small business management
Experience on other volunteer Boards and grant applications preparation
Passionate about HH and our Association
Kathryn Davis




A life-long cottager in Honey Harbour, with family vacationing here over 100 years
Background in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry, small business management and recently
working in corporate team building
Was president of the Junior Honey Harbour Association many years ago and would like to get reinvolved and give back to the community
