Dear applicant.
Welcome to Abbey Hey Primary Academy. I am delighted that you are interested in applying for this post.
Abbey Hey Primary Academy serves a diverse, urban community in Gorton, who fully support the school and
are determined to work in partnership with the school to further improve. The pupils are enthusiastic, eager to
learn, happy and very well behaved. The school has lots of strengths but the biggest strength of all, is the
pupils themselves.
During the summer term of 2011, the school was judged by OFSTED inspectors to be “requiring special
measures”. In September 2013 the school was judged to “no longer require special measures” and was
removed from the OFSTED category. On December 1st 2013 the school became a sponsored academy,
sponsored by United Learning, a national charitable trust. As you can imagine the school has changed a lot
since May 2011 and is on an exciting and rapid journey of school improvement. The post has been created as
the result of a ‘leadership re-structure’ and the successful applicant will play a leading role as a member of the
senior management team. The successful candidate will be expected to work fast and effectively and be an
‘outstanding classroom practitioner’ but will also access the highest quality CPD in order to support his/her
professional growth.
The staff team at Abbey Hey Primary are hard working and very supportive of each other. There is a real
‘team’ ethos at our school, a commitment to professional development and a collaborative approach to
problem solving, not problem creating. It is a safe working environment, developing a ‘no blame’ culture and a
strong ‘can do’ culture. All staff are committed to raising standards and improving teaching and learning.
To compliment our CPD programme all staff are given the opportunity to attend Improving Teaching
Programmes and to work with a variety of staff from other schools and organisations. We have a very strong
commitment to and belief in the power of partnership working. We are a self-evaluating and self-improving
school and, to support us to do this well, we will utilise all available resources.
