Im Süden, unmittelbar an der vierspurig ausgebauten B 6, wird ein Erweiterungsmodul entstehen. Die Vorbereitungen sind bereits weit gediehen, eine Bautätigkeit ist noch in diesem Jahr möglich. E in Bebauungsplan aus dem Jahr 1993 wurde in den letzten anderthalb Jahren an die modernen Anforderungen angepasst. Der Schwerpunkt bei der Neuansiedlung von Unternehmen in dem Erweiterungsareal liegt im Zulieferbereich für die Automotive-Industrie und in der Logistik mit deutlichem Fokus auf arbeitsplatzintensive Betriebe mit langfristiger Zukunftsperspektive. Die trimodale Verkehrsvernetzung von Straße, Schiene und Luft macht diesen Standort zu einer begehrten Entwicklungsfläche für global agierende Unternehmen. Diese Flächen befinden sich in unmittelbarer Nähe des Porsche-Werkes (direkt an der Werksgrenze bis zu maximal 1000 Meter Entfernung), in unmittelbarer Nähe des Passagier- und Cargo-Flughafens Leipzig-Halle (3500 Meter) sowie unmittelbar am Container-Terminal der Deutsche Bahn AG. An expansion module is being built in the south, right next to the expanded 4-lane B 6 highway. Preparations are already well underway; construction may even begin this year. A development plan from 1993 was adapted to modern requirements over the last year and a half. Efforts to populate the expansion zone with companies are concentrated on the supply sector for the automotive industry and on logistics, with a special focus on job-intensive plants with long-term prospects. The trimodal transportation network of streets, rails, and air makes this location a desirable development area for global enterprises. The engine of this development is metaWERK AG, which completed a pilot project at GVZ Anzeige/advertisement Leipzig in September 2013 for the new logistics and industrial park (called Internationales Logistikzentrum Leipzig (ILZ)). This supply company currently employs 230 fulltime workers. More is planned, however, than just the continuation of the offering of plots at GVZ Leipzig; the range of services is also being expanded. metaWerk itself will invest in the commercial properties that will be built on the new plots and will offer them for lease to companies that are relocating. This will help support quick relocation decisions and offer the companies a high degree of flexibility. Currently, metaWERK owns 320,000 square meters of developed industrial plots in the strategically well-positioned expansion module of GVZ Leipzig, with direct access to the Quartier Süd (South Quarter) II. These plots are located in immediate proximity to the Porsche plant (directly on the plant property line up to a maximum of 1,000 meters away), in immediate proximity to the Leipzig-Halle passenger and cargo airport (3,500 meters), and right next to the container terminal of Deutsche Bahn AG. Buildings are planned with plant floors of around 95,000 square meters as well as the necessary office and functional buildings in addition to around 70,000 square meters of logistics space.
