STAY IN TOUCH!
Happy New Year to All!
Welcome to the first newsletter for 2014. I hope you all had a great
Christmas period and are feeling positive and enthusiastic for the year
ahead. It has been an amazing past year with some fantastic health
promotions and events being held across North Staffordshire, Stoke and
South Staffordshire.
Let’s take a brief look at the previous year’s
achievements.
Throughout 2013 HLP’s across North Staffordshire, Stoke and South
Staffordshire have participated in many health campaigns and have
offered opportunistic healthy living advice. We now have 58 fully
accredited HLP’s in North Staffs and Stoke and South Staffs. We aim to
accredit all those awaiting accreditation by February/ March this year.
This will then form a strong HLP force of 124 across the whole of
Staffordshire.
Analysis of the data collection from the campaigns carried out
throughout 2013 shows that the total amount of people who received a
Healthy Living message across the whole of Staffordshire was 1197!
What an impact! Well done to all!

Post Your Health Promotion
Campaigns!
We have seen some fantastic health promotions in 2013. For the
Mental Health campaign at the beginning of 2013 Trent Health
Pharmacy, Ashbank road, Werrington held a mental health day. They

information, a thermometer and a poster to put in their window to
warn away any unnecessary house callers. Trent Health also organised a
free gentle exercise class at their local village hall.
Well Street Pharmacy in Biddulph contacted Rethink for mental illness and the manager from the local drop in centre
came into the Pharmacy and set up a display and engaged with patients and customers. The Healthy Living
Champion made 50 goody packs which contained mental health information, pens and badges which were supplied
by Time to Change. The HLC then went into Rethink drop in centre and gave a talk to the service users about Healthy
Living Pharmacy.

and invite them into your Pharmacy to give information on
the services they can provide.

Data Collection Review
The Facilitator has reviewed the data that has been sent in by
HLP’s in 2013. Below is a graph that shows the amount of
data that was sent in for each campaign. It highlights which
Pharmacies have sent data in and for how many campaigns.
A total of Seventeen
Pharmacies sent data in with
the most data being received
from Norfolk Street
Pharmacy, Shelton. There
were 23 Pharmacies that did
not send any data in at all,
this shows that out of all 40
fully accredited HLP's in
North Staffs and Stoke only
42% sent data in and 58% did
not send any data in at all.
A total of thirteen pharmacies
sent data in to the Facilitator to
be analysed. A total of 37 HLP's
didn't send any data in at all. This
means that only 26% of HLP's in
South Staffordshire and
Surrounds sent in data and a
staggering 74% did not send any
in at all. This must be
investigated to see what
solutions and additional support
can be provided in order to
facilitate more data collection.

Data Collection
It is vitally important to collect and send as much data as possible
for each health campaign that is promoted. There are many
HLP’s that did not send any data in at all in 2013. Healthy Living
Pharmacy is a new concept and if we want to have extra
services commissioned from HLPs, we must demonstrate how
successful we are in sending out public health messages. We
cannot prove this if we do not receive any data.
It is really vital for the success of HLP to collect data and send it in. We do have a few
small pilot schemes in HLPs so the commissioners are noticing HLP – let us prove we are up to the task.
There are various ways to collect data:
 Opportunistic Health Advice – Have the data collection sheets close to the counter and record any
healthy living message given with a customer/ patient
 Health Campaign Event- Dedicate a day to promote a targeted campaign. Plan how you are going to
record the data, eg; BP readings, one team member could be taking the BP and another could record the
data.
 Leaflets/ Information- Order literature and count how many leaflets you have to start. Count
quantity of leaflets monthly. Send in data of how many leaflets were taken each month.
 Signposting- Keep a record of each time you refer a patient to a particular service.
After each Bi Monthly Campaign please send data to:

If you do not send any data in, your hard work may be going unnoticed. Please share your news stories and send
photos of your displays to the above email.
The Facilitator will be asking for data sheets after each health campaign.
