BEVERLEY RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB NEWSLETTER Issue 13, Sept 2014 http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/beverleybravesallagegroups/ Email [email protected] Hull & District under 15 Champions – Hull & District under 12 cup holders Braves win all the top awards at HKR 2014 Roll of Honour Hull KR scholarships (under 16) Joe Wardill; Dylan Clifford; Harry Inman; Owen Harrison Beverley Braves players won all the top awards at the recent Hull Kingston Rovers young player of the year awards. Under 16’s players Joe Wardill, Dylan Clifford and Harry Inman all left with a trophy. Full back Joe was named Scholarship Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year whilst Dylan was Scholarship Man of Steel. Finally Harry scooped the Scholarship Try of the Season award, which was extra special given Joe and Dylan were involved in the build up to that score. Parents and coaches alike are really proud of what the lads have achieved and it really shows what can be achieved as a Beverley Braves player. Joe has further reason for celebration as he has now signed a contract for the Rovers under 19 side which means this will be his last season with the Braves. The lads are shown opposite at the awards alongside fellow Braves team mate Owen Harrison whose season with the Hull KR scholarship was cut short due to injury. Meanwhile the Braves 16’s continue their success in the Yorkshire League first division, a recent home victory over Featherstone Lions means they consolidated third in that division. Players and Coach wanted! All teams from the cubs (under 6) to open age are always on the lookout for new players. If you know anyone who is interested in playing the game they can come down to any training session and speak to the coaches, or contact them using the details at the end of this newsletter. We are also looking for a coach for the cubs. This would be coaching the youngest members of the club on Saturday mornings and attending the occasional cubs galas. The club will pay for the right person to take their level 1 coaching certificate. Interested? Speak to Neil Gay (07460 898724). And there is more success at the other age levels…… Whilst the success of the under 16’s is something to be proud of at the club, the other age groups have not been short of their own successes either. During the summer the under 13’s won a tournament hosted in Wakefield by Eastmoor Dragons. This would have been a great achievement for any age group but considering the under 13’s had just a handful of players back in March when the season started this was another great example of the strides this team has made under new coach Tim Nicolini. The under 11’s won a thrilling semi-final of the Admiral of the Humber Cup, winning in extra time against West Hull. Their reward was a final at Haworth Park against East Hull, the only unbeaten team at this age level. The Braves put in a fantastic performance in the final and were seen by many as the better side, but the could not convert this into a victory, going down 12-4. This is surely a sign of things to come in the next few seasons for this team as they can safely say they are one of the top teams at this age level. The under 8’s have been busy as well having a successful Burton Pidsea festival where they played four games and at a Hull FC festival where they played a further two games. The Burton Pidsea squad is pictured with coach Neil Goforth and Airlie Bird (Neil is on the left). Meanwhile the under 9’s took part in a great Veterans festival in East Park at the end of July, the lads are pictured below after receiving their medals from Hull FC head coach, Lee Radford. Last and by no means least the under 12’s have had a steady season winning and losing equal amounts of games meaning they reached the cup quarter-finals and sit in mid table in their division of thirteen teams. They are looking forward to the end of season group finals at Haworth Park on 5th October as their last chance to win some silverware this season. Judging by their latest game, a 16all draw at Skirlaugh they have every right to be confident. STANDING ORDER PAYMENTS The club would like all parents to pay their child’s subs by standing order. Collecting cash is a real drain on our volunteer resources, by paying by standing order you are allowing those people who collect the cash time to add something more into the club – or spend time watching their child train or play. In order to this, you can arrange with your bank to pay £10 per child monthly into Lloyds TSB account 17515860, sort code 30-10-76, account name 'Beverley Braves Rugby League Club'. You must ensure that the reference on the Braves account transaction is your child’s name otherwise when the money comes into the account we will not know who it has come from and your subs will still be outstanding. Thank you for your help in this matter, if you are having difficulty with this request please speak to your team coach. DATES FOR YOUR DIARY There are several dates that you will need for your diary: Friday 31st October – Halloween Race night at Hodgsons to raise money for the club. For tickets contact Ian Pollard 01482 679444 FUN RUN UPDATE It seems a long time ago now but back at the beginning of May we had the third annual Beverley braves fun run. Once again the Fun Run will be the single biggest fund raiser for the club in this financial year. It had more runners that ever before (just over 150) and once expenses have been accounted for it will have made over £2,000 for the club funds. Thank you for all the runners who not only completed the race but collected the sponsor money as well. If you still have some sponsor money to collect, it is not too late make sure you give it to your coach as soon as possible. For the record the prize for the most sponsor money collected went to under 8 Charlie Brown who raised an amazing £212 and he now has the luxury of a full year of free subs from the club. Well done Charlie! Thanks also to the race starters, Hull FC and Great Britain Rugby League legend Johnny Whiteley ably assisted by Miss Hull and District 2014, Zara Holland and Hull FC under 19 player Charlie Johnson. As far as results were concerned Isaac Tones, one of a good number of runners from Cottingham Tigers RLFC, was the first home overall. Joe Wardill was the first Beverley runner home, taking the award for the under 16's team, with Charlie Gay the second Brave to finish and therefore winning the rosette for the under 11's. Joe Anguish was the best finisher for the under 13's with Lewis Egan first for the under 12's. Connor McCabe ran the fastest time for the under 8's with Jacob Parkinson doing the same for the under 9's. Of course special thanks must go to Neil Gay and Pat Egan for the hard work they put in to organise the run and make sure it was completed successfully and safely. In addition, all those who helped either as marshals or by registering the runners deserve get a big pat on the back as without them the run could not have happened. Finally thanks to Tesco for supplying fruit and Nestlé Waters for providing Buxton bottled water for the runners. Annual General Meeting The AGM was on the 7th of June at Hodgsons. All the existing officers were re-elected to their positions. Accounts for the year up to 31st March 2014 showed a surplus of income of £2,652 which, although a healthy position to be in, underlines the importance of fundraising. Without the fun run there would not have been a surplus. Largest expenditure was on Kit, Equipment and Clothing (£2,988), the hire of the pitches at Longcroft (£1,821), Trophies (£1,215), presentations and food (£930), Insurance (£733) and coach travel (£725). Other than the fun run the main income was from subs (£8,565). Exciting news about the future of the club Keep your eyes peeled on the website and newsletter for some very exciting news about the future of our club. There has been a huge amount of work going on in the background over the last few months from various representatives of the club and local agencies. The result of this hard work is likely to be confirmed very soon and it is probably the biggest single step forward the club – particularly the junior section - has seen in many years. Who’s who at Beverley Rugby League Club? There are lots of people who volunteer their time to ensure the club runs in an efficient manner. The club is split in to two parts; the Junior section and the Open Age and each has its own committee and contacts. Details are below.
