SPEAKERS
The 3rd Engineering Education Summit is part of the
World Research & Innovation Convention on Engineering &
Technology (WRICET2014), bringing together parallel events
under the theme on Advancing Technology-Innovative Minds.
The common events for this Convention will be held in the Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya. The summit provides an eﬀective platform
for communication and collaboration among the stakeholders in
engineering education to share their views and opinions in

MEET THE SPEAKERS
Datuk Wira Md Sidek Bin Ahmad
Ir. Lai Sze Ching
Datuk Wira Md. Sidek Ahmad was born on
25th September 1952 at Masjid Tanah
Melaka. His secondary education was at
Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak. He did
his Ordinary National Diploma in Electrical
Engineering at Brighton Technical College,
UK in 1972. In 1975, he graduated with
Bachelor of Science (Hons) majoring in
Electrical & Electronic Engineering from University of
Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), United
Kingdom, and Master of Business Administration from University
of Ohio (Athens, USA) in 1995. Currently he sits on the Board of
Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the co Chair for the National
Monitoring Committee (NMC) for engineers. He is also the
current Chairman of the Engineering Accreditation Council
(EAC) and the appointed Chairman for the Engineering
Technologist Accreditation Council (ETAC). He is a ‘Fellow
Member’ of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and was
an IEM Executive Council Member (1997 – 1999).
Ir. Lai Sze Ching graduated as a Mechanical
Engineer from the University of Malaya. He
also holds LL.B degree from the University of
London and LL.M from the University of
Malaya. In addition he also holds a Certiﬁcate of Legal Practice from the Qualifying Board of
Malaysia. He is currently the Managing
Director of an engineering ﬁrm. He is currently a member of the Industry Panel for Lim Kok Wing
University of Creative Technology and Multimedia University. Ir Lai
also serves as the Student Ambassador for the External Law
Programme of University of London. Ir Lai is currently serving as
Deputy President of Malaysia Institute of Arbitrators and as a
Member of the EXCOMM of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia.
Prof. Ir. Dr. Hjh Siti Hawa Hamzah
Dr M Marzuki Mustafa is a professor in systems
and control engineering at the National
University of Malaysia (UKM). He received the
B.E degree from University of Tasmania,
Australia, MSc and PhD degrees in Systems and
Control from University of Manchester Institute
of Science and Technology, England and
University of Salford, England. He is a corporate
member of Institute of Engineers Malaysia and a registered professional
engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He has held various
positions in UKM such as dean of Faculty of Engineering and Built
Siti Hawa Hamzah, PhD, P.Eng, FIEM, Hon
MAFEO ASEAN Engr, MPWI, MRM, PSWM
is a Professor at the Faculty of Civil
Engineering Universiti Teknologi MARA
(UiTM), MALAYSIA, an Associate Director
(Structural Engr) at EAD, an Adjunct
Professor at the Faculty of Engineering,
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, MALAYSIA, a
Professional Engineer registered with The Board of Engineers
(BEM) MALAYSIA and a Fellow with The Institution of Engineers
(IEM) MALAYSIA. ([email protected]). Specialising in load
bearing wall and wall panel structures, she obtained her PhD in
Civil & Structural Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia, Master of Science in Civil Engineering from University
of Kentucky, USA, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and
Certiﬁcate of Education from University of Miami, USA.
Ir. Azlan Abdul Aziz
Prof Ir Megat Johari Megat Mohd Noor
Ir Azlan Abdul Aziz is the former
Director
of
the
Engineering
Accreditation Department at the
Board of Engineers Malaysia. He is
a senior lecturer at the Department
of Civil Engineering, Universiti Putra
Malaysia. He graduated from the
University of Wales, Cardiﬀ, UK and University of Melbourne, Australia majoring
in technical & Geoenvironmental Engineering. He
has extensive teaching, research, administrative and
consultancy perienc since graduation in 1981.
Prof Ir Megat Johari was the founding Dean of
Malaysia Japan International Institute of
Technology at UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus
and Director of the Engineering Accreditation
Department (EAD) at the Board of Engineers
Malaysia. Currently he is the Assoc. Director
(International Aﬀairs) at the EAD. Prof Ir Megat Johari was the Head of Quality
Assurance at the Faculty of Engineering, UPM prior to joining BEM.
His involvement in professional societies includes Vice President of
Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Secretary General to Malaysian
Society for Engineering & Technology (MySET) and Council Member
of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries
(FEIIC). Presently, Prof. Ir. Megat Johari is the Director of the Centre
for Quality and Risk Management Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Marzuki Mustafa
Prof. Dr. Shahrin Mohammad
Prof Shahrin, is the Dean of Civil
Engineering Faculty, Universiti Teknologi
Malaysia and currently the President,
Society of Engineering Education Malaysia.
He is also one of the Associate Director at
the Engineering Accreditation Department,
Board of Engineers Malaysia and involved
as an auditor for Malaysian Qualiﬁcation Agency. With over 30 years of academic experiences, he is
deeply involved in the planning, managing and assuring the
quality academic programmes nationally and internationally. He
holds B.Eng(Hons) Civil Engineering, Department of Civil
Engineering, University of Liverpool, UK, M.Phil in Structural
Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, University of
Newscastle Upon Tyne, UK and PhD in Civil Engineering,
Department of Civil Engineering, University of Sheﬃeld, UK.
