Structural Stability
• Symmetrical design maximized thermal stability
• High strength nodular cast iron
• No cantilevered moving structures
Enhanced Part Accuracies
The MAG CINCINNATI MEGA 5 horizontal machining center is designed not only for
optimized performance but it is extremely flexible and easily adaptable to changing
part requirements. The MEGA 5 can be configured with specially designed options
for high-speed processing of aluminum or rigorous, high-torque machining of tough
materials such as cast-iron, steel, Inconel and titanium.
• Dual ballscrew support on all axes
• Proven THK caged ball linear motion guides
• Absolute axis feedback
Superior Travels, Speed and Capacity
With its extended Y-axis, the MEGA 5 offers 1425 mm of
X-Axis travel, 1350 mm of Y-Axis travel, and 1265 mm of
Z-Axis travel providing the range and part capacity to meet
a wide variety of customer needs. Part sizes up to 1300
mm (51.2”) diameter and 2000 mm (78.7”) high, weighing
2200kg (4840 lbs) can be accommodated. The machine’s
feed rate of 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) and 1G (386 in/s²)(9.8 m/s²)
acceleration/deceleration rate provide unmatched metalcutting
performance compared to other machines of this class.
Spindles for Any Work Material
Proven Components and Design
The MEGA 5 utilizes the same rigid, thermally stable
symmetrical design as the previously introduced 4-axis MEGA
machines. The machine base incorporates an extra large
center trough to handle high volumes of chips. It also features
three-point leveling in a compact footprint that eliminates the
need for special foundations.
The A-axis tilt spindle used on the MEGA 5 machine is adapted
and refined from the spindle used on the highly successful
Cincinnati Machine MAGNUM H5-1000 introduced in 1999.
The XT Spindle configuration, primarily for hard metal applications, is available with a geared
spindle offered in either HSK 100A or ANSI 50 which provides a base speed of 375 rpm and a
maximum speed of 6,000 rpm.
The AP Package, primarily for aluminum, is offered with a choice of two high-speed spindles, one
rated for continuous operation at 50kW (67 hp) and the other rated at 30kW (40 hp). Both feature
HSK63A tooling interface and are capable of 24,000 rpm operation.
Massive Part Capacity
Featuring a full 180° tilt spindle, the MEGA 5 minimizes the part access
restrictions common in some 5-Axis machining center designs.
