Nationals St Francis Bay
At last spring has arrived bring forth renewal, growth
and hope and longer warm sunny days in which we are
able to enjoy the camaraderie of a golfing friend.
Our constitution states that the principal objective of
the Sages Senior Golfers is to promote and foster the
game of golf in the RSA and particularly among its
members, and what a good opportunity to
commemorate it with International Friendship Day which was celebrated
on 30th July. Friendship Day originated as an idea of a day celebrating
with friends, which spread through much of the world. The idea of a
World Friendship Day was first proposed on 20 July 1958 by Dr. Artemio
Bracho during a dinner with friends in Puerto Pinasco, a town on the
River Paraguay about 200 miles north of Asuncion, Paraguay. During
2011 the United Nations declared that July 30th would officially be
International Friendship Day.
Cansa Day (07 August 2014) - Our annual Sanlam Cansa Day was played at Jeffreys Bay Golf Club on a pleasant sunny
spring day. Thank you to all the people who were involved in making our Cansa Day so special and successful, we
were able to generate an amount of R7 050 which was donated to Cansa.

dankie aan ons Sages Bestuur en lede, Sanlam Cansa (Me Joan Duarte en Mnr Joe Botha van Port Elizabeth en Me
Selina van Deventer van Jeffreysbaai), Gene en Jill Tesselaar vir hul milde donasie, die verskeie borge, Jeffreysbaai
Gholfklub se bestuur en personeel, alle ondersteuners en vir Snakes Snyman wat die dag as afsitter diens gedoen
het. Baie geluk aan al die wenners van die dag en Jaco Rademeyer wat die set kompetisie gewen het.
Kouga Sages Club Championship (16 September 2014: St Francis Golf Club & 20 October 2014: Zwartenbosch Golf
Club) - Due to maintenance, a program whereby the St Francis course will start their annual hollow tinnning on 29th
September 2014, it was decided to change the dates and venues around for the two clubs.
Fynbos Golf Club - Our next game is at Fynbos Golf Club on
Thursday 4 September 2014, again this promises to be a special
day. Please make an effort and join us for a day of friendship and
companionship with our fellow Sages
2015 Nationals ( 04 May to 08 May 2015) - Anybody who wishes to
help and get involved with the arrangements for this tournament

CANSA DAY – JEFFREYS BAY – 7 AUGUST 2014
On Thursday 7 August a successful Cansa golf day was hosted by Kouga Sages Senior Golfers at the Jeffreys Bay Golf
Course. Apart from the good spirit and camaraderie among the golfers, the sunny weather and nearly windless day
contributed to the success of the day. The proceeds of the day were donated to Cansa to facilitate the fight against
cancer in the Kouga region.
The highlight of the event was the prize giving ceremony. Prizes were sponsored by Sanlam and various individuals
and organisations in the Kouga area. Selina van Deventer, representative of Cansa in the Kouga Region, handed out
the prizes to the winners.
The Ladies winner was Ria Bestbier (36), the next 5 place were determined on a count out all with 35 poits 2. Retha
Snyman, 3.Laetitia Knoetze, 4. Jenny Smith and 5. Zana Gouws.
The Mens winner was George Boshoff with an excellent 45 pts, the next 3 places were determined on a count out all
on 42 pts: 2. Frank Swart, 3. Johan Greyling, 4. Dave Frauenstein. On 41 pts were E. van Rensburg, Nic Snyman,
Frikkie Knoetze en A. Louw.

THE SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAY BOYS
In addition to the annual SAGES National
Tournament, 4 mini tournaments are played during
the year: the Northern mini, the KZN mini, the
Central mini and the Cape mini (old Cape Province).
The current preferred competition format is for
teams consisting of two better-ball pairs to compete,
with the winning branch determined by the sum of
the BB Stableford scores of the 2 pairs in the winning
team.
8 Members will represent us at the Cape Mini
Nationals on 20 & 21 October at the Knysna Golf
Club. 9 Sages Regions will take part over the two
days. They are Boland, Border, EP, Kouga, Langeberg,
Outeniqua, Overberg, Southern Cape and WP.

This is a yearly event that is played over 36 holes (on two
separate competitions). 3 Floating Trophies will be awarded as
follows :

FYNBOS COUNTRY AND GOLF ESTATE
Date: Thursday 4th September, Greenfees: R50.00, Shotgun start: 8.30
Format: American Scramble (2 –person). Each player tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and
both players play their second shot from that spot. The better of the second shots is determined. Both players play
their third shot from that spot, and so on until ball is holed. (according to IPS principles).
HANDICAP for the game: The handicaps of the two players are added together and divided by 4.
