WHAT IS HAPPENING ON OUR ROADS AND
BRIDGES THIS WEEK?
Roadside service
marks 90 years
CAKE and colourful conversations
about NRMA roadside assistance incidents will feature in Wendy Machin’s
recollection of her whistlestop tour of
country NSW.
Ms Machin recently visited the
Taree NRMA branch in Manning
Street to meet staff and cut a slice of a
celebratory cake to mark the 90th anniversary of its roadside assistance
service.
It was one of many cakes cut during the tour by Ms Machin who is the
deputy president of the NRMA.
Four NRMA roadside assistance
vehicles are based in the Manning
Valley, and according to NRMA regional business manager Heidi
Novosell, they manage between 6000
and 7000 call-outs annually with a flat
battery flagged as the incident that
prompts most people to seek help.
Cundletown concert to help
‘raise the museum roof’
CUNDLETOWN Public School is
hosting a variety concert to help raise
funds to expand the Cundletown
Museum.
Cundletown Museum has been in
its current location for two-and-ahalf years, with exhibits and displays
reflecting the busy lives of its former
residents.
With an emphasis on preserving
the artefacts and implements of the
dairy industry, many larger relics
have been promised as additions
when space permits. These are currently housed by donors or friends
for safe keeping.
However, this is about to change.
After much negotiation and adaptation of plans, the land has been
readied to commence the building of
‘The Shed’, a facility which is designed to accommodate these bulkier items of historical interest.
These include a restored milk
truck and small sulky.
The housing of these items within
the museum grounds will add to the
current exhibition and enable an
even greater appreciation of the
dairy industry and its changes over
the years.
To build such a facility, however,
requires support. In order to boost
funds, a variety concert is being held
at the Cundletown Public School on
Sunday, October, 26 commencing at
1.30pm.
Entitled ‘Raise The Roof”, the concert is planned to bring members of
the wider community and local
artists together to help realise this
dream.
Vocal soloists, choirs, instrumentalists, bands and dancers will engage the audience in a memorable
afternoon of entertainment .
Tickets are $10 adult, $8 concession, $25 family, and afternoon tea,
raffle ticket, cottage craft and a lucky
door prize will all be available.
The public is invited to come and
hear some great Sunday afternoon
music, and help the local community to preserve and maintain history a
the same time.
For more information, ring
Margaret on 6553 9574 or Ruth on
6553 9561.
Patchworkers rally at retreat
to benefit children’s ward

benefit from a $1155 donation by a
community of patchworkers who
rallied together at a retreat in
Coopernook.
More than 30 women from the
Manning Valley, Hastings and Hunter
districts attended a patchwork retreat
hosted by Love Patchwork.
The money was raised during the
four-day event and recently Love
Patchwork proprietor, Jenny Chapman
presented the donation to Manning
Hospital nursing unit manager, Tracey

HAVE YOUR SAY ON YOUR COUNCIL POLICIES!
We are interested to hear your thoughts and feedback on the
following policies:
• Councillor Expenses and Facilities
We are required to annually review, and place on public
exhibition, our Councillor Expenses and Facilities policy. The
purpose of the Policy is to ensure that there is accountability
and transparency in the reimbursement of expenses incurred
by Councillors. The Policy also ensures that the facilities
provided to assist Councillors to carry out their civic duties are
reasonable and meet the expectations of the local community.
Submissions close: Thursday 6 November 2014 at 5pm
• Community Event Signage
There are a number of pieces of legislation that govern signage
and its placement in public spaces. Many event organisers
do not know that the use of the road reserve for installation
of signage is legislated and approval is required. This policy
aims to give approval in a simple and accessible way. The
Community Event Signage Policy relates to promotional signage
for community events hosted by community organisations and
community groups.
Submissions close: Friday 31 October 2014 at 5pm

BEACH STREET HARRINGTON
We recently reconstructed a 150m section
on Beach Street Harrington. Works included
new kerb & gutter, footpath, drainage and road
pavement. Made possible through funds raised
from the special rate variation, the works provide
a great place to stop and enjoy the views across
the break wall.
