Provenienza: A young innovative winery in the heart of Italy in Umbria, Cantina Novelli a subsidiary
of Gruppo Novelli, has held a prominent role in the food industry over the last
40 years. The company is owned by one of the largest and most influential families in
Umbria, with total sales proceeds of 150 million euros and 600 employees
Our Vineyards: With over 800 hectares of family-owned land in Montefalco and Spoleto, Cantina
Novelli has selected the best 56 hectares for wine growing. The vineyards are
mainly located in the heart of the DOCG zone, which represents the most important
area for quality viticulture production in Umbria. The soil in this area is particularly
argillaceous and pebbly ideal for donating structure and body to red wines. For
its white wine production, Cantina Novelli has selected the area of Spoleto. The soil is
loose and pebbly and particularly rich in limestone which is ideal for giving aroma and
structure to white wines
Production: 700,000 bottles by 2011
R&D: Cantina Novelli’s mission is to recover and promote the native varietals of our region.
Those varietals with a long tradition tied to the territory. In this way, Cantina Novelli
seeks to become a true ambassador for its area of origin, investing in several research
projects, such as the Recovery of the extraordinary white grape, Trebbiano Spoletino,
(from pre-phylloxera vines – today one of the top Italian whites), Recovery of the
Pecorino of Umbria and International projects with our Sparkling wines, in
collaboration with Prof. Attilio Scienza of the University of Milan (one of the most
important names in viticulture research).
Our Team: Our international, young, enthusiastic and dynamic team is working closely with top
academicians and professionals of the trade. Academicians and trade professionals:
Maurilio Chioccia, a world famous winemaker and Cottarella disciple, and Attilio
Scienza, father of wine zoning laws in Italy from the University of Milan. Also, with
the collaboration of the University of Perugia
Our Winery: Designed to be tasted the same way its best wines are tasted, the winery extends 3000 square metres of which 600 square metres dedicated to hospitality services.
