Activities Under
INM Section
• INM (Integrated Nutrient Management)
section, previously known as soil Testing
Section, as the name suggested, INM section
is involved with nutrient management. It
basically deals with management of soil
health, fertility and nutrient available in the
soil.
Soil Testing
Soil testing has been conducted by this
department under the supervision of this section.
At present we have 3 (three) Static soil testing
laboratories stationed at Neihbawi (Sihphir),
Lunglei and Kolasib. We also have 3 (three) mobile
soil testing van stationed at Serchhip, Saiha and
Kolasib. These soil testing laboratory and van are
used to determine the soil condition of the
farmers so as to enable us to recommend their
lime and fertilizer requirement to improve their
soil health.
Reclamation of Acid Soil
One of the most important function of INM
section is reclamation of acid soil. Since the
soil of Mizoram is acidic in nature due to the
heavy rainfall and its topography leading to
heavy leaching, reclamation is very important.
In Mizoram, slaked lime is the mostly used for
reclamation and INM section is responsible for
its procurement and distribution to different
agriculture district.
Fertilizer
Director of Agriculture is the Controller of
Fertilizer for the state of Mizoram. However
since Fertilizer business has been privatize, the
department is not directly involve in the
procurement/sales of fertilizer. License (both
retail and wholesale) are issued by the
department. At present we have 23 wholesale
dealers and 10 retail dealers.

Movement of Fertilizer
• GOI give allocation for fertilizer to the state
based on the requirement submitted to them
during the Zonal Conference
• On receiving allocation from GOI, the
department made allotment to dealers
according to their capacity and requirement of
the district
• On receiving allotment from the department,
the dealers procure their allotted quantity of
fertilizer from the fertilizer manufacturing
company.
• The retail dealers then procure the fertilizer
from the wholesale dealers for sale in their
outlets/ sales counter.
Fertilizer Quality Control Laboratory
1 FQCL stationed at Neihbawih, Sihphir.
All fertilizer inspector should draw fertilizer
sample on arrival of stock with their dealers
within their jurisdiction, to maintain and check
the quality and standard of fertilizer.
