2. Applicants may apply to two or more admission units [majors, departments, or schools]
simultaneously.
※ Applicants are not allowed to apply to two or more majors (departments, or schools) among
the following : School of Communication / Department of Economics / Department of
Commerce and Finance / School of Business Administration/ each department in the
College of Design).
3. Please fill in the online application very carefully. Cancellation or changes to the application
after submission will NOT be accepted.
※ Please check over your application before submission.
4. Applicants are entirely responsible for any consequences that may be caused by the
submission of incorrect application information. Applicants are also held responsible for any
disadvantages resulting from incorrect (outdated or omitted) contact information and failure to
receive notice from the university.
※ Applicants must inform the university of any changes in phone number or address.
5. Documents submitted will NOT be returned regardless of success or failure.
▢ Privacy Policy
1. The reception and management of the online application is contracted out to Uwayapply Co.
Ltd., a company specializing in online applications for college admission.
2. Kookmin University collects and stores personal information only necessary for admission
under the consent of applicants, and uses it for the purpose of admission and college
registration only. After admission into the university, the university will use and provide the
collected personal information for the purpose of education, research, administration,
announcement of campus life and information. Accordingly, applying for admission is
regarded as the applicant's consent to this privacy policy, and application submission
without consent to this policy will not be accepted.
3. The list of personal information to be collected : Applicant’s name, Alien Registration
number, application specifications (term, type, school/ department/ major, application
number), nationality, address, educational history, contact numbers, e-mail address, bank
account, parents’ information (name, nationality, occupation, address, contact number),
etc.
□ Notice to Applicants
▢ Revocation of Admission
1. If an applicant is found to have submitted falsified or forged documents or hires a substitute
examinee, the application will be disqualified and the admission and enrollment will be
revoked even after entrance registration. In this case the tuition and entrance fees will not
be refunded.
2. If an applicant is enrolled in two or more universities for the same semester, the
admission will be revoked. In this case the tuition and entrance fees will not be refunded.
3. Successful applicants to two or more admission units [majors, departments, or schools]
should register for only one major, department, or school.
4. If a high school graduate-to-be applicant fails to graduate from the high school by the due
date, the admission and enrollment will be revoked.
5. If the Ministry of Justice refuses to issue a student visa (D-2) for the applicant, the
admission will be revoked. In case that the successful applicant could not receive a student
visa (D-2) within 2 weeks from the beginning of the semester, the admission and
enrollment will also be revoked. Applicants are entirely responsible for visa refusals and
delays.
6. On inquiry regarding the applicant’s academic records, if an applicant is found to be
unqualified, the admission and enrollment will be revoked even after entrance registration. In
this case, tuition and entrance fees will not be refunded.
▢ Other Notifications
1. Since there are no additional announcements to individual applicants regarding these
admission guidelines, applicants should be well-informed of the guidelines. The university
is not held responsible for any disadvantages incurred by applicants’ poor understanding
of the admission guidelines.
2. Applicants must check the announcement of successful candidates, which will be made
on the university’s homepage (http://iat.kookmin.ac.kr). The university will NOT inform the
applicant of the admission results individually. Applicants are entirely responsible for the
disadvantages incurred by failure to check the announcement.
3. Evaluation records and scores will NOT be disclosed.
4. Course placement will be based on the Korean proficiency level which is estimated by
TOPIK score, the level of KMU Korean Language Center, or the result of KMU Korean
Level Test (Course Placement Test).
5. Final ruling regarding the admission guidelines will be subject to related laws and
regulations, the university’s regulations, and the decisions of "the University Admissions
Management Committee".
■ Application Requirements
1. [Nationality Requirement]
The applicant and his/her parents must have foreign citizenship.
※ Taiwanese students may apply if one parent is a Taiwanese national, even though the other parent
is a Korean national.
※ The foreign citizenships of the student and parents should have been acquired before the student
entered high school (or a school equivalent to high schools in the Korean educational system).
2. [Education Requirement]
The applicant must have completed or will complete regular high school (graduate or
graduate-to-be).
* Additional Requirement for KMU International School (“KIS“) Applicants
Applicants for KIS should meet one of the following:
A. TOEFL iBT 80 (CBT 210, PBT 550), IELTS 5.5 or higher
B. English native speaker
C. Applicant who works for the government or international organization with a reference from the
organization. (If necessary, interview can be held.)
※ Eligibility Restrictions
A. Dual citizenship holders with Korean nationality are not eligible to apply.
B. Applicants who passed the high school qualification examination overseas are not
eligible to apply.

will be selected on the basis of the evaluation of their academic ability within the capacity

2. Notice for Document Submission
A. All documents must be written in or translated into Korean or English and notarized.
B. Applicants must submit the original documents. If applicants should inevitably hold the original
document, on condition that the original must be submitted later, applicants may submit
a copy after checking it against the original at the Admissions Office.
C. Successful applicants must submit the following documents by July 11th, 2014. The decision
of admission can be revoked unless the applicants submits the documents.
- Chinese applicants : The Credentials Report of the Chinese Ministry of Education on the
graduation examination or college entrance test.(www.cdgdc.edu.cn,

D. Chinese applicants who should apply for D-2 Visa issuance must submit all documents including

E. If there is any exceptional case in the academic background such as early graduation, skipping
a grade and no transcript, or no school records etc., the applicants must submit the verification

F. Applicants who are submitting the scheduled graduation certificate must submit it before
the date of entrance.
G. Applicants may be required to submit additional documents for verifying a specific fact.
Documents submitted will not be returned.

2. Refund of Application Fee
A. Applicants who are found to be unqualified upon the result of the document screening will
get a refund of the document evaluation fee (₩20,000) (or interview(₩20,000) and
performance test fee(₩50,000) submitted to their bank account.

2. Notification for Successful Candidates
A. If a successful candidate does not pay the deposit for registration confirmation before the
deadline, the admission will be automatically canceled.
B. Detailed schedule and method for full payment of tuition and entrance fee will be
announced individually with the Notifications of Successful Candidates.
C. If a successful candidate does not pay the tuition and entrance fee before the deadline, the
admission will be automatically canceled.
■ Refund of Tuition and Entrance Fee
Successful applicants who want to deny entrance and get a refund must visit International
Affairs Division (Room 217, Bugak Hall, KMU) with the tuition and fee receipt, applicant's
ID card, and bankbook before 16:00, July 11th, 2014.

■ Medical Insurance and Health Check-up
1. Medical Insurance
A. International students must have medical insurance in case of unexpected accidents or
disease. We explain insurance in detail at orientation for newly admitted students.
B. Students who do not maintain insurance will have disadvantages in school
administration and scholarship matters.
2. Health Check-up
A. We do a health check-up for all freshmen. The time and venue will be announced.
B. Students who are found to have any contagious diseases in the results of the health
check-up must accept the university's decision; for example, a leave of absence.

1. Placement Criteria

Course Placement will be based on the Korean proficiency level which is estimated by
TOPIK score, the level of KMU Korean Language Center, or the result of Korean Level
Test (Placement Test) which will be held by the university. The course placement criteria

3. Notification
A. In the first semester, students in Korean Level 4 (Intensive Korean CourseⅠ) can take
a maximum of 15 credits including the 'Intensive Korean' class, but are not allowed to
take a major course.
B. In the first semester, students in Korean Level 3 (Intensive Korean CourseⅡ) should
take a designated Korean language courses and academic foundation courses.
C. More detailed information on course placement will be explained during orientation.

Division. Students should apply for a visa in their home country's consulate office in Korea
after paying tuition.

It will take about 4 weeks for students to receive the visa number from the submission of
the application for visa to the Immigration Office.
※ Residents who live outside the district under jurisdiction of Seoul Sejong Immigration Office
should take the 'Certificate of Admission' and apply for a visa in person.
(If you don't extend and change your visa before the expiration date printed on your Alien
Registration Card, a penalty will be charged according to the Immigration Control Law)
