ESR POSITION IN SUPRAMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY
in the framework of the Nano2Fun ITN-project, funded by the European
Commission as a Marie Curie Action, FP7
www.nano2fun.eu
Within the Nano2Fun network selection is open for an Early Stage Researcher
(ESR) position on the topic “Supramolecular Approach to Organic Nanoparticles”
Contract length: 3 years
Research activity: The main activity concerns the design, synthesis and growth of
functional chromophores and nanoparticles for applications in 2-photon microscopy
and 2-photon polymerization. Research activity will be mainly run at JNCASR
(http://www.jncasr.ac.in/) an outstanding center for advanced research located in
Bangalore (India). The work on supramolecular synthesis will be coordinated by
Prof. Subi George (http://www.jncasr.ac.in/george/) and will be supported by
computational and theoretical studies under the supervision of Prof. Swapan Pati
(http://www.jncasr.ac.in/pati/).
Secondments: in the three years of the project several secondments are foreseen.
About 6 months will be spent at ICMAB di Barcellona (PI: Jaume Veciana
http://www.icmab.es/nanomol/contact/2-jaume-veciana-i-miro ), 2 months at the
University
of
Antwerp
(PI:
Wim
Wenseleers
http://www.physics.ua.ac.be/~wwens/research.html ), 1 month at the company
PIANETA (PI: Giuseppe Caputo http://www.pianeta.eu/).
Salary: Nano2fun is fully funded by the EU Commission. The gross salary amounts to
26.258€/year (2188.17€/month), plus 483,7€/month of mobility allowance (that
increase to 690,1€/month per ESR with a family). All travel expenses related to
secondments are in charge to Nano2Fun.
Additional Information: Bangalore is known as the Silicon Valley of India because of
its role as the nation's leading Information Technology (IT) exporter. It is a very lively
location for scientific research (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangalore#Economy ). The
climate is very comfortable all over the year (Bangalore is called “the air conditioned
city”). The JNCASR, apart for being known word-wide for first rate scientific
research, has a beautiful campus with very good facilities. The salary is very good,
particularly so if compared with indian salaries: it amounts to more than 5 times the
salary of an indian PhD student, being similar, if not higher, than the salary of an
indian professor.
India is an emerging country with a very fast economic growth and can offer very
interesting work opportunities. An international experience that combines a long
stay in an advanced research center in India, with shorter stays in advanced
laboratories in Europe is a good start to build a carrier in science both in the
academic and private sectors.
