Frequently Asked Questions - School Search Hyderabad Depending on the popularity of the school there may be a waiting list to gain admission. Making early contact can help ensure a place. Most schools allow you to be able to submit your application before you arrive in Hyderabad; however, submission of application is NOT a guarantee to get a seat. In some schools an interview with the child OR a formal assessment is mandatory before the school provides admission. Before deciding on which school you should apply to, it is recommended that you visit the school, preferably with your children, while it is in session. You will be able to get a feel for the school by its appearance, the behaviour of the students and by the attitude of the teachers and administrators. You will find below a list of the most frequently asked questions in relation to the school search in India. 1. How do I go about finding a school for my child in Hyderabad? Once you know that you are moving to Hyderabad, you will need to have a look at the various schools that exist in Hyderabad, and determine which schools cater to your specific nationality, religious aspirations or cultural background. There are two international schools in Hyderabad – International School of Hyderabad (called ISH) and Indus International, which are the schools for Global citizens. There are various other schools which are English instruction schools and cater to international standards of education. 3. How do the international schools in Hyderabad stand up against schools in other parts of the world? Finding the right school for children is crucial. Santa Fe recognises that a proper match between children and the school they attend will enhance the success of an expatriation. Once the international assignee authorises Santa Fe to proceed with a complete school assistance program, the following processes are provided: International School of Hyderabad (ISH) The International School of Hyderabad (ISH) offers excellent educational, recreational and social opportunities. The student body at ISH consists of students from 25+ different nationalities, mainly from the USA (approximately 45%), UK, India, Malaysia, France, Australia, Germany, Israel and New Zealand. There are over 42 teachers from 12 different nationalities employed at ISH. Approximately 43 % of teachers are Expats. There is no formal assessment to be able to get admission. The Indus International admissions are subject to vacancies in the respective grades and based on a written test for sixth grade upwards. Admission tests for sixth grade and above are held on all working days. The outcome of the tests is usually announced on a working day within a week. Students for sixth grade and above are assessed in, Math and Science subjects (age and grade appropriate) in English. Those seeking admission to the Primary years are interviewed by the grade teacher to ascertain their readiness for a particular grade. The tests are set on an age appropriate, international curricula. The language of instruction is English and the curriculum planned is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme from Prep to fifth grade, the Indus Middle School Programme is from Grade six to Grade ten, culminating in the CIE (Cambridge International Certificate) of Secondary Examination in Grades nine and ten. Students are awarded the International Certificate of Education in tenth grade. In communication with the school, do not hesitate to ask what the school’s academic results are and, if you wish, request printed verification of their results. Find out the ratio of graduates that are accepted into university and also the names of the universities that have accepted their graduates, in order to gauge the academic standards of the school. Other schools like Oakridge International, Sreenidhi International have limited seats available and you will need to wait for your turn for a seat to be available. These schools will collect copy of the assessment records, passport, visa and medical record (if any) and the child will need to go through a formal assessment before admission is granted. 4. I am curious about the other international schools e.g. Sreenidhi International, Oakridge International etc.; can you tell me more about these schools? 6. What is the difference between ISH / Indus and other international schools? There are various schools in Hyderabad e.g. Oakridge International, Sreenidhi International, which provide education by international standards by adopting various interactive education methodologies from IB, IGSE, IBDP standards of educations. These schools also provide assistance in preparation and writing examination for IB/IGSE/IBDP degree. These schools follow Indian syllabus and hence are most suitable for returning Indians. Some of these schools may offer curriculum from IB, IGSE etc. ISH / Indus offer international syllabus while other international schools may offer Indian syllabus and international syllabus optional. 7. Do schools offer debentures? Schools in India do not have debentures. 8. What is the language of instruction in ISH/Indus and other international schools? All schools have English as the language of instruction. Schools like ISH offer special coaching and support classes for children who are weak in English or know little English. 5. What are the admission criteria for various schools and the chances of my child being admitted into that system? The ISH provides admission based on the child’s assessment records from the previous school. The school will ask for a copy of the assessment records, passport, visa and medical record (if any) to be able to provide admission. What is the mode of transportation available in for schools? All schools offer school buses wherein the children are picked up and dropped at selected community points. You will need to arrange for you own transport to drop and pick your child to the nearest community point. ISH does not conduct assessments for entry into the school. For schools like Oakridge International, Sreenidhi International, and Indus International etc. the school will conduct an assessment before granting admission. You may choose to use your own private transport to send children directly to school. 10. My child has special needs, are there schools or centres that will attend to my child’s special needs? 15. If I am unable to get my child admitted in the school of my choice then what other options do I have? All schools provide limited support to children with special needs. For Hyderabad there is very limited choice in terms of arranging home teaching and hence you may need to be flexible to accept an existing school. The school began admissions for 2011-2012 school year, with Pre-Kindergarten to fifth grade and will then be expanding one grade level per school year until Pre-Kindergarten – 12th grade is reached. ISH offers nursery and Kindergarten facilities. Other schools like Oakridge International, Sreenidhi International, and Indus International etc. have nursery and kindergarten facilities. In addition there are specific schools who offer only nursery and kindergarten facilities e.g. Esperanza, Eurokids. 12. What are the school fees? You will have to visit the website of your preferred school for your children to view registration fees, tuition fees and all other relevant expenses by class level. I have heard that the number of children on waiting lists for entry into international schools is high. What are the chances of my child securing a place? The ISH generally accommodates all children who may be seeking admission. For Indus International the waiting list is not long and usually one may be able to seek admission in the school in short span of time.
