the arts or community action.
ISL Qatar has an established and successful IB Diploma
Programme and this scholarship will support an exceptional
student in their quest to gain admission to the world’s best

We welcome back Rima Danaf from maternity leave.
She resumes her role as Admissions Assistant.
We say farewell to Vicky Beech, as she goes on
maternity leave and wish her all the best for the
forthcoming addition to the family. In fact she will be
leaving Qatar soon, to go on a new adventure in Oman.
We would to thank Vicki for helping to make KG one of
the strongest areas of the school: she has been part of
an incredible team that has made that important
transition year a key success area of the school. She has
had a massive impact on the children she has taught. We
wish her all the best in the future with her new family
and in her new school.

Grade 4 How we express ourselves - Persuasion can
influence the decisions we make.
Grade 4's celebration of learning was a real hive of activity!
Students dressed up smartly on the day which made them look
very professional and knowledgeable. Their jingles and slogans
were catchy and creative and it was interesting to see the
kinds of things being advertised, such as cars, food and even
places to visit. The Grade 4s used their persuasive strategies to
convince their parents that their product was the best, and
some even gave away prizes!
Grade 2 Who we are ~ Our health and well-being
depend on the choices we make ~
Grade 2's celebration of learning was fantastic. Their rooms
looked amazing; they were set up beautifully and were very
inviting. Their display boards looked very professional,
showing great display skills. The students were very
knowledgeable about healthy lifestyles and could give their
parents lots of information about how to be
healthy. Connections were made in music class, where the
children explored different tempos and found out which speed
of music worked best for different kinds of exercising. They
shared their routines with the audience and had everyone
dancing.
KG Celebration of Learning
The Kindergarten classes had a fantastic morning on
Wednesday when they had a celebration of learning for their
'How the World Works' unit. The students have been looking
at life cycles of mammals and non-mammals and have been
researching an animal of their choice. This research was
presented in the form of a group presentation showcasing all
their learning. Many students were totally 'in character' for
their presentations and an octopus, a bat and a dung beetle,
amongst others, could all be seen proudly showing their
knowledge and understanding of their animal; it's life cycle,
habitat, food and other fun facts. A really wonderful
collection of work. Well done to the kindergarten students
and their teachers.
PYP Parent Information Session
Next Thursday the 27th March there will be another Parent
information session for the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
For this session, we will be looking at how the programme
covers subjects that are traditionally taught by themselves.
Areas such as Science, History and geography are taught
through the units of inquiry in PYP. The session will run from
7.30 - 8.15. Please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to
attend.
Grade 1 Show
The Grade 1 show will take place on Tuesday March 25th with
two showings, one in the morning 8-9.00am and one in the

U16 Girls Netball League v AKIS
ISL played Al Khor International School at home last
Wednesday. The team made a slow start in the first quarter
and allowed AKIS to take a good lead. However, during the
middle two quarters ISL began to show stronger defence and
greater movement on the court to make a comeback.
Unfortunately it was not enough and the stronger team from
AKIS took the win. Final score ISL 11 v 24 AKIS. The U16 team
now have two league games remaining this season.
U19 Girls Netball Tournament
Student coach and player Awhi Vreugdenhil captained ISL
Qatar’s first-ever U19 netball tournament, held at Doha
College, last Monday. Considering the majority of the team are
aged 14-15 years old, the girls played excellently and held their
own against much older, taller and well-organised teams. ISL
drew one match and lost two by small margins to finish in a
very respectable 4th place overall.
Last Wednesday the boys U14 & U16 football teams
competed in the Doha QUESS football semi-finals in Al
Wakra. The U14 team, who had played six and won six in the
group stages, played against Doha British School. After a
close fought match, with the score still being 0-0, DBS scored
with only minutes remaining. ISL were then awarded a
penalty in the dying seconds. Pablo stepped up and
confidently placed the ball in the bottom corner. The match
ended 1-1 with the game now going to penalties. Daniel
Gonzales saved one of the penalties to put ISL through 5-4.
ISL now play the final against Dukhan English school on
Tuesday 1st April.
After five wins out of six in the group stage, the U16 team
played Al Jazeera Academy. ISL were soon 1-0 down when
the AJA captain ran through five players to slot the ball
home. ISL, improving all the time, equalized after 10 minutes
and looked the better side after that. With some excellent
passing and attacking play, ISL scored again to go into the
lead 2-1. AJA equalized after some poor defending from ISL.
Half time 2-2. The second half was much better from ISL.
Constant attacking, with some excellent play down the
wings, saw ISL awarded another penalty which Ranveer
Chauhan smashed into the goal to win the game 3-2. ISL will
now play Doha College on Saturday 5th April in the Al Wakra
stadium at 4.00pm.
This was an excellent effort from both teams and is the first
time in the school’s history that ISL have reached the finals
in both competitions. Many thanks go to the coaches Denys
Melnychuk and Darren Mortimer for enabling our students
to improve so much in the last year.
U16 Girls Netball Tournament
The Grade 9 netball team travelled to Doha College to
participate in the under 16 netball tournament, hoping to
place better than last year’s result and showing the growth
and improvement of the team during the past year.
Unfortunately, two losses and one win in the group stages
meant ISL would not qualify for the semi-finals. The team took
to the court for the last match of the day to play for 5th and 6th
positions against Dukhan English School. ISL dominated the
match and did not concede one goal, earning 5th place overall
with a convincing win over Dukhan.
Activites
Please note that next week (23rd- 27th March) will be the last
week of activities. We will send out an email with new
activities after the Spring Break.
