Information Services Librarian Qatar National Library Qatar National Library has a new opening for an Information Services Librarian – Historical Maps, globes and other cartographic material position, if interested please send your CV to Sandra Montesinos. e: [email protected] Key Result Areas Develop, Evaluate, research, and document the maps, globes and other cartographic materials of the Heritage Collection. Prepare a systematic survey of the section, with focus on the maps to identify strong and weak fields. Research the collection to identify historical significance of items. Provide high level descriptions of maps for QNL contributions to digital portals (e.g. the World Digital Library). Create high level short descriptions (“display labels”) in English for identified items, following international standards. Develop and maintain professional order and cataloguing according to international standards and QNL requirements Assist in choosing maps and globes for new acquisitions, exhibitions or digitization. Will assist and work together with researchers, visiting scholars and the community in the assigned area. Assist in preservation and conservation needs for maps and globes. Keep abreast of developments, trends and issues in all areas of responsibilities. Familiarize, understand and implement QF health, safety, and environment policy, procedures, legal regulations and objectives applicable to areas of responsibility. Ensures coordination with HSE department in implementing, monitoring and reviewing of HSE performance to ensure work under his/her control is performed in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner. This position includes, but is not limited to, other duties as required and defined by the scope, purpose, and spirit of the institution and are not always indicative of the title and grade of the position. Job Requirements Master’s degree in relevant discipline, such as cartography, history, Middle East or Gulf Studies, Library Science, or other related field. Considerable exposure and proven knowledge in Early European Maps and/or Islamic cartography. Minimum 2 years’ experience working with maps, including proper handling and storage. Experience in the preservation needs of maps, globes, and other cartographic material, including digital formats for long term preservation and collection building. Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills in both oral and written English. Arabic language skills will be an asset. Good interpersonal and people skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
