APRIL 2014
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
On a brilliant sunny day April 6th, our
volunteer team got the nets up on the
hard courts and installed all the
windscreens. Thanks to everybody who
showed up to help! For current opening
hours please visit WHATS ON.
Greetings UTC members old and new!
After a long winter, I know you are as anxious as I am to get back to the courts.
Preparations are well under way to get the club facilities ready for 2014.
We finished last season with a great year-end party and AGM at Mayfair
Sports and Racquet Club on November 9, attended by 61 members. It was an
opportunity to thank president Gord Llewellyn, Premises Director William Lei
and Club House Manager Zac Manankil for their contributions to UTC. The
following new directors were elected at the AGM: Soheil Kashi (Director of
Teams), Robin Lapointe (Clubhouse and Courts Allocation Director) and Dave
Ross (Premises Director). Welcome to these new volunteers.
In a newly created role as groundskeeper, we welcome John Weston. John is
a long time member who will bring his many skills to the maintenance and
improvement of our courts and clubhouse. As for our pros, we welcome back
Sally Coles and Adrian Coles. Daniel Salmon is not returning for this year. For
information on group lessons go to PROGRAMS and to PROS CORNER for
information on private lessons.
There are no major court surface renovations scheduled for this year. We have
a couple of surface cracks that our court contractor will address in the spring.
We do not expect this work to disrupt court availability very much.
All your favourite activities will be available again, such as the Tuesday
morning Ladies House League, the Wednesday evening, Friday morning and
Friday evening mixed Round Robins, Inter County competition, and singles
ladders. Best of all, once again there is no increase in membership fees!
We are dedicated to provide a first rate tennis facility and experience for all
our members. We are proud of our facility and are planning to make further
improvements this season. However, we cannot do it without your help and we
will need more volunteers this year than ever.
We are always anxious to hear your comments and ideas on how our club can
be improved. If you have any comments or suggestions, do not hesitate to
contact any of your executive at CONTACTS.
Finally, our official Opening Day festivities will be on May 3rd at 11am. Join
us for fun tennis drills, food, prizes, and more. I look forward to seeing you all
on the courts!

REVISED COURT POLICY
Premises Director Dave Ross
signals nets up is completed!
Based on your feedback, we have revised our court
policy. A court will only be assigned when at least two
members are present to play on that court. This will help
ensure better court utilization and assignment. The
revised court policy also applies to telephone booking
which will still be available for Wednesday and Thursday
evenings. When a member is late or there is a no-show,
the assigned court will be used as a random court after 10
minutes. Phone booking will start the 3rd week of May.
For a complete description of all court policies please
visit POLICIES.
UTC Executive
Thanks again to all those volunteers who came out to assist with Nets Up Day. Thanks for the coffee
and doughnuts, thanks to our Pros, Sally and Adrian, for being available to answer questions along
with the executive team. As you can see, while the hard courts are ready, it will still be a while before
the clay courts are playable, its usually early May, we will let you know by email.
HELP FOR NEW MEMBERS!
UTC is a large club with many programs and events for adults and juniors. With our 9 courts and 1,000
members we are one of the largest volunteer run community based tennis clubs in Canada. Potential
members have many questions, but we have lots of answers readily available on our web site at
http://www.unionvilletennisclub.ca/. You can find out how to get a court, when are we busy, what are all
the rules, how to get a lesson, how many courts are booked for programs on any particular day, when are
we open, what are the drop in programs, when do we have round robins, what teams do we run, what
ladders do we run, how do you register for membership, a program, a lesson or how to book a court by
telephone, and lots more! You can find out the names of the executive team who run the club, and find out
how to email them with any questions. Please do, don’t be shy, we love feedback!
