TD(IT) F/022(2) CANDIDATURE DEFENCE (CD) SCHEDULE FOR 2014 January 15 29 February 12 26 June 11 March 12 July 25 November 12 26 Application process: Student 9 15 Department May 26 9 23 14 29 September 12 26 15 August 23 28 Oktober 29 December 17 31 Student MUST submit application to Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Studies)’s Office via email ([email protected]) at least ONE MONTH before the date of CD. Application that is submitted less than one month will be postponed to the next date automatically. NOTES: Postgraduate Office April must specify the date of presentation/seminar. Attach Research Progress Report Attach support letter/email from supervisor(s) to conduct the CD Student can start applying for CD from 3rd semester/max. 5th semester (PhD) and 2nd semester/max. 3rd semester (MengSc)- (Endorsed by JIT on 19.02.2013) Staff acknowledge the acceptance of application from student via email. Staff inform Head of Department to appoint panels (provide all particulars of student) – WITHIN 3 WORKING DAYS FROM THE DATE OF APPLICATION NOTES: must ensure there is support from supervisor(s) and the date of seminar is specified must ensure that panels are appointed by Head of Department Panels: minimum 3 (including supervisor) and appointed by Head of Department (Endorsed by JIT on 19.02.2013) Head of Department appoint panels according to the field and submit to Postgraduate Office via email ([email protected]). – WITHIN 3 WORKING DAYS Postgraduate Office Staff set-up CD seminar and send report to examiner(s) – venue, announcement, invitation of panels etc and notify student to prepare – WITHIN 3 WORKING DAYS FROM THE DATE OF EMAIL FROM HEAD OF DEPARTMENT - Invitation will be opened to public (uminfo) Student Student present in the seminar Postgraduate Office Monitor evaluation by the panels Send results to student cc to supervisor(s) (PASS/FAIL) Use standard format of CD evaluation form by IPS/FKUM WITHIN 7 WORKING DAYS FROM DATE OF SEMINAR Things to be submitted to the Faculty BEFORE Candidature Defence presentation session: 1. Research Progress Report ( 5,000 – 10,000 words) which includes the following: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) Research proposal; Accurate research objectives and questions; Complete literature research; Research methods; Research findings to date; Bibliography; List of publications or conference proceedings which have been presented during candidature; 2. Abstract of 500 words in Bahasa Malaysia and English Candidates are NOT ALLOWED to amend or replace the contents of research progress reports which have been submitted earlier to IPS on the day of the presentation. Candidates can submit a hardcopy of the PowerPoint presentation to the evaluators on the day of the presentation. Candidates are required to make their own copies for the purpose. Reminder to candidates: Candidates are required to submit Research Progress Report together with the application i.e one month prior to the day of presentation.
