On Monday two of our students chosen to represent the Riverina in Basketball, Wednesday we had a very successful day at Trent Barrett, Thursday 3 players were chosen to proceed to the next level of trials in AFL and on Saturday we finished with an amazing Fete! Last Saturday under beautiful blue skies the LPS P&C held their biannual Fete. The Fete was extremely successful with many happy families walking around our wonderful grounds on the day. An event such as this is not possible without the contribution of many people. Fair co–ordinator and P&C President Melissa Anthony did a wonderful job coordinating the event along with her tirelessly working committee who have been planning behind the scenes for months to ensure a great Fete. To this hard working group a big thank you!!! There are many individuals that need to be acknowledged for their input into the day including Steve Anthony for doing much behind the scenes including camping out at the school on Friday night and marking the grid for the Daisy Drop (they do say behind every great woman is a great man…), Rob & Belinda Fairweather for their work on the hoopla as well as providing the major resource for our daisy drop, Reece Thomason for the fencing, all of the stall holders and managers, volunteer helpers, people who helped set up on Friday night and from 6am Saturday, our sponsors, Bec Lawson and the talented LHS students who provided entertainment as well as all of the LHS students who helped out on the day in a variety of ways, the Old Apexians who came to our (Rob & I) aid on getting the doughnut machine up and working and to the students and parents who helped out on the day by donating goods, giving their time or coming along to participate. Well done to the Leeton Public School P&C and the wider Community! There is a full report and photos further on in this newsletter. It was a spectacular and record breaking day with 52 teams participating and over 500 students. The day began with an exciting and loud bus trip with singing and ‘Let’s go Leeton’ chanting as we rounded the corner to Jubilee Oval. Our boys and girls were then straight out onto the field for the first of their 3 games. Every single child played with great spirit and sportsmanship and when the opportunity arose to watch their fellow peers, they were there to cheer them on. New friendships were also made at the end of the day with students from other schools joining in to our ‘Bullfrog’ game, making over 60 participants. It was just great to see that all the children had a fantastic time, whether they won or lost. A big thankyou must also go out to Sarah Torbuck, Hayley Patterson, Steve Anthony and Scott McDonald for helping out with the coaching of our LPS teams. Congratulations also to the LPS Boys Team 1 who won all their games and are now travelling to Wagga to compete in the next round.
