Wow! what a week at Leeton Public School. On Monday two
of our students chosen to represent the Riverina in Basketball,
Wednesday we had a very successful day at Trent Barrett,
Thursday 3 players were chosen to proceed to the next level of
trials in AFL and on Saturday we finished with an amazing
Fete!
Last Saturday under beautiful blue skies the LPS P&C held
their biannual Fete. The Fete was extremely successful with
many happy families walking around our wonderful grounds on
the day.
An event such as this is not possible without the contribution of
many people. Fair co–ordinator and P&C President Melissa
Anthony did a wonderful job coordinating the event along with
her tirelessly working committee who have been planning
behind the scenes for months to ensure a great Fete. To this
hard working group a big thank you!!!
There are many individuals that need to be acknowledged for
their input into the day including Steve Anthony for doing much
behind the scenes including camping out at the school on
Friday night and marking the grid for the Daisy Drop (they do
say behind every great woman is a great man…), Rob &
Belinda Fairweather for their work on the hoopla as well as
providing the major resource for our daisy drop, Reece
Thomason for the fencing, all of the stall holders and
managers, volunteer helpers, people who helped set up on
Friday night and from 6am Saturday, our sponsors, Bec
Lawson and the talented LHS students who provided
entertainment as well as all of the LHS students who helped
out on the day in a variety of ways, the Old Apexians who
came to our (Rob & I) aid on getting the doughnut machine up
and working and to the students and parents who helped out
on the day by donating goods, giving their time or coming
along to participate.
Well done to the Leeton Public School P&C and the wider
Community!
There is a full report and photos further on in this newsletter.

Sporting success at LPS
We have had another successful week on the sporting fields
with students from our school chosen to play at the next level
in Basketball, Trent Barrett and AFL.
Basketball
Last Monday we had several students travel to Albury as a part
of the boys and girls LNPSSA Basketball team to take part in
the Riverina PSSA Basketball trials. Our students had a great
day with Grace Korovata and Mikayla Broadbent being
selected to represent LNPSSA in the Riverina team.
Congratulations to these two students.
Trent Barrett Shield
Last Wednesday 38 students from Years 3 & 4 travelled to
Griffith to take part in the Trent Barrett Shield competition. The
day was an extremely successful day with over 54 teams
competing and in excess of 500 students at the grounds taking
part in NRL and League Tag games.
Congratulations to our Team 1 boys side that made it through
to the next level which will take place in Wagga on Thursday
th
10 April. A Full report regarding the Trent Barrett shield can
be found further on in this newsletter.
AFL – Selections
On Thursday we had Nathan Ryan, Jye Doyle , Emerson
Cody, Jack Coelli , Harrison Rudd and Kye Davis travel to
Barooga for the Western Riverina AFL trials. The boys had a
great day playing against students from a wide area of the
Western Riverina including Deniliquin, Balranald & Finley.

the LNPSSA team. Good luck to all of our boys.
Young Leaders Conference
th
This Sunday, March 30 our Captains and Vice Captains are
travelling to Sydney with students from Yanco, Murrami &
Whitton to take part in the 2014 Young Leaders Conference
which is being held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Guest
speakers presenting to students will include author Andy
Griffiths, Ita Buttrose and The Hon. Bob Carr.
The aim of the Young Leaders conference is to-:
- Inspire students to make a positive contribution to their
school.
- Motivate students to be great leaders in their area of
influence.
- Empower students with practical skills of balancing study,
school commitments and social life as well as managing stress
in these areas.
- Promote the value of inspirational and positive role models as
examples to others, by exposing students to a diverse range of
leaders and their views on leadership.
- Educate students about the need to grow in knowledge and
practical skills in the areas of excellence and leadership.
- Connect students from different schools and develop longterm support networks.
I know our leaders will have a great time while away.

The last day of this term, Friday 11th April sees us running the
annual LPS Cross Country in the school grounds. All students
K to 6 participate in this event. I am calling for some parent
helpers (always need assistance!) to 'man' checkpoints on the
day. You can still watch your child jog past and give them a
little cheer of encouragement!. If you can spare time between
9:30 and 11:30 on Friday 11th April, please fill in the note at
the end of the newsletter and return to the office. Your support
would be greatly appreciated.

Harmony Day
For Harmony Day 2014, our SRC created the theme 'Linking
Us Together'. LPS students created a large orange paper link
chain, with each student having their own link in the chain. The
chain was displayed at the school fete on Saturday 22nd
March. Students also enjoyed a casual clothes day on Friday,
with lots of orange shirts, dresses and headbands; the
signature colour of Harmony Day. Thank you to our SRC for
their help in coordinating Harmony Day.

Trent Barrett Rugby League and League
Tag day.
38 children including 15 girls and 23 boys travelled by bus to
Griffith last Wednesday to participate in the Trent Barrett
Shield. It was a spectacular and record breaking day with 52
teams participating and over 500 students. The day began with
an exciting and loud bus trip with singing and ‘Let’s go Leeton’
chanting as we rounded the corner to Jubilee Oval. Our boys
and girls were then straight out onto the field for the first of
their 3 games. Every single child played with great spirit and
sportsmanship and when the opportunity arose to watch their
fellow peers, they were there to cheer them on. New
friendships were also made at the end of the day with students
from other schools joining in to our ‘Bullfrog’ game, making
over 60 participants. It was just great to see that all the
children had a fantastic time, whether they won or lost. A big
thankyou must also go out to Sarah Torbuck, Hayley
Patterson, Steve Anthony and Scott McDonald for helping out
with the coaching of our LPS teams. Congratulations also to
the LPS Boys Team 1 who won all their games and are now
travelling to Wagga to compete in the next round. All our
students should be extremely proud of the way they conducted
themselves and on how they supported their fellow team
mates and thanked the opposition and match referee after
every game. Well done LPS!

Sophie Anthony, Charlotte Rudd, Lailani Watts, Hayley Bull,
