In their first year, students will attend the Clinical School once a week for tutorials and hands-on teaching to help them develop and practise their clinical skills. They will also have the opportunity to interact with patients in ward situations across Campbelltown, Camden and Blacktown hospitals. Applicants will be selected based on academic merit (minimum ATAR or equivalent), UMAT results and an interview. For further information, visit the Faculty’s website at www.med.unsw.edu.au University of Newcastle/University of New England Joint Medical Program – Cancelled August 2014 The Doctor of Medicine (JMP-MD)* is a combined 5-year Bachelor of Medical Science/ Doctor of Medicine program offered jointly by the University of Newcastle and the University of New England. Applicants nominate the university at which they would prefer to complete the program when they submit their JMP direct online application. The selection of applicants for admission to the JMP is based on: ■ academic merit – a minimum ATAR of 94.30 is required for a candidate applying on the basis of secondary results to be eligible for consideration. Students attending a rural/remote high school will be able to satisfy the minimum requirement with an ATAR of 91.40. Candidates applying on the basis of tertiary results must have achieved results averaging at close to credit level ■ performance in UMAT – an applicant’s performance in UMAT will determine if they are invited for interview/Personal Qualities Assessment ■ performance in a structured Multiple Skills Assessment interview conducted on set dates in November/December 2014 ■ performance in an online Personal Qualities Assessment to be undertaken when the candidate attends their interview. UNSW Australia The selection criteria for Medicine for students currently in Year 12 are: ■ academic merit – a minimum ATAR or equivalent of 96.00 is required to be eligible for consideration ■ UMAT (see shaded box on this page for further information) ■ interview – selection interviews for NSW/ACT applicants will be held in late November 2014 and early January 2015 (late January for interstate applicants). Approximately 500 applicants will be interviewed. In the selection of students for entry, these three criteria will be equally weighted. Different criteria exist for rural and Indigenous entry schemes. University of Sydney Double Degree Medicine Students combine an approved undergraduate degree with the University’s fouryear graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine (MD). Double degrees are: ■ ■ ■ ■ Music–MD Science (Advanced)–MD or Medical Science–MD Commerce–MD Economics–MD. Applicants are eligible to apply for admission to a Double Degree Medicine at the first opportunity after graduating from high school, regardless of when their results become available. If their results are not available in time to be considered for the 2015 intake (that is, prior to the issue of invitations to the January 2015 interviews) they are required to complete a supplementary form (visit http://sydney.edu.au/medicine/ future-students/medical-program/admissions/selection-criteria.php) and to upload certified copies of their qualifications and the date that their results were released. If eligible, they will be invited to an interview in January 2016 for the 2016 intake. Up to 30 domestic and 10 international places will be offered for the Double Degree Medicine for admission in 2015. In past years, around 20 of these places have been taken by students in the Science (Advanced)–MD or Medical Science–MD. Up to an additional five further places in the Science (Advanced)–MD or Medical Science-MD pathways will be offered each year to Indigenous applicants who obtain a rank of 95.00 or higher. The selection process is competitive and selection criteria include: ■ academic merit – for 2014 entry the ATAR cut-off was 99.95, except Music-MD, which was 99.50. ■ performance in an interview – applicants will be shortlisted based on their ATAR. Interviews are held in January 2015. Music–MD applicants are also required to undertake an audition. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students wishing to be considered for entry to the Science (Advanced)–MD or Medical Science–MD program must apply through UAC. A separate application direct to the University through the Cadigal Program is also required. Forms are available at http://sydney.edu.au/cadigal OPTOMETRY UNSW Australia Alternative entry for 2016 UNSW will provide a limited number of transfer places as an alternative entry pathway for admission to Optometry/Science for applicants who have not undertaken postsecondary studies and who are not eligible for entry in 2015. Applicants are advised to apply for B Science (Advanced Science) 429350 for 2015 and enrol in the Vision Science major plan. Selection for alternative entry to Year 2 of Optometry/Science in 2016 will be based on: ■ performance in UMAT ■ performance in Year 12 (ATAR or equivalent of at least 90.00) ■ performance in required first-year subjects completed while enrolled in Advanced Science at the University of New South Wales. During 2015, students who are enrolled in the prescribed Year 1 Vision Science plan will be invited to apply directly to UNSW for a transfer place for 2016 entry. For further information, visit www.optom.unsw.edu.au SPECIAL TERTIARY ADMISSIONS TEST (STAT) The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is compulsory for Year 12 applicants applying for Veterinary Biology/Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Sydney. Year 12 applicants who sit STAT must include details of their STAT sitting in their UAC application. Year 12 applicants who sit STAT after they have applied through UAC must inform UAC immediately. STAT sessions are held throughout the year. Year 12 applicants who sit the May or June STAT sittings must remember when they apply through UAC later in the year to include details of their STAT sitting in their UAC application. VETERINARY SCIENCE Charles Sturt University In addition to applying through UAC, applicants must complete and return a supplementary application form demonstrating their commitment to rural veterinary science and practice. Applicants are selected for an interview based on their completed supplementary application form. The closing date for applications is 30 September 2014 and late applications will not be considered. The form will be available from CSU’s website in August 2014. For more information, visit www.csu.edu.au/courses/undergraduate/veterinary_science University of Sydney Veterinary Biology/Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Year 12 applicants will be considered for selection based on their ATAR or equivalent, their result in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) Multiple Choice and their commitment to veterinary science as detailed on a prescribed form. Non-Year 12 applicants who have completed a minimum of one year’s full-time university study (or equivalent to 48 credit points) will be considered for selection on their grade point average (GPA), their result in the STAT Multiple Choice and their commitment to Veterinary Science as detailed on the prescribed form. The final date for sitting STAT for entry to Veterinary Biology/Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 is Saturday 29 November 2014.
